Greeter this week: Lynne Ternosky

Rotary year 2017-18 has begun.
Our planning of three years for this coming year is past and now the Rotary year has started!
We welcome the new Rotary E-Club of Canada One board. This year it includes four directors at large. We have four Committee chairs in Service Projects, Membership, Foundation and Administration
Much has been accomplished and we as a club shall continue making a difference in the Canadian Arctic Northwest Territories Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program, in Honduras as the Potable water and wash program is completed, in literacy support of students and in new goals to celebrate Canada's 150 years as a nation.
Rotary International President Riseley has challenged us to continue making a Difference. The base of Rotary work is the Rotary Foundation which we continue to support. RI President Risely has also challenged us to plant 1 tree for every member. How will you plant yours?
Our club will take this challenge on along with a Canada 150 challenge to each of you through Acts Of Peace.
Welcome to Rotary E-Club of Canada One.  Only you can share this very rewarding experience in Rotary with others.
I am honoured to be the 2017-18 Rotary E-Club of Canada One President, but we are nothing without you.
Our club plan was shared at the Fellowship induction ceremony of the 2017-18 board. Let the committee chairs and board members know how you want to be involved this year.
Enjoy our weekly meeting!

Comments from our Guests and Members
Members and guest attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?

Enjoyed most the inspirational video of Terry Fox. A sad ending in that he lost his fight with cancer. but happy in that he exceeded his monetary goal by $499 million!!!
Chuck Wooten, RC of Brentwood, TN, USA, D-6760

Best wishes to the 150 Confederation, the Birthday of Canada. It's time for me to read more about the history of your country. Most articles in our newspaper speak about the great experiments in Canada, as an example for immigration and integration like we need in Europe. Greetings from Germany.
Sabine Gueffroy, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

I learned about some history of Canada, told in a light-hearted, but informative manner. I got the impression that Canadians have an inferiority complex about their nation that some, like the speaker, are addressing with good reason.
Paul Cohen, RC of Omaha (Downtown), NE, USA, D-5650

This week's meeting took me four sessions to complete, but I felt I needed to listen to the History of Canada, specifically on Canada Day. I never felt more proud to be Canadian than during this week.
Terry Fox' story brought tears to my eyes. We can be proud of our nation.
The Rotary Minute I like to share with every single person. Whenever I am overseas, I hear how welcoming Canada is to all nations of the world.

Elly Contreras, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Wow, just another amazing program.  Really liked the Inspirational video about too much I and not enough we and us and the Canadiana was also very interesting.  But I never thought that I would ever see a Republican promoting a carbon tax and pointing out how everyone will be a beneficiary.
David Werrett, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

News from the E-Club Family
Remembering Al Bergsma
Our recent trip to Alberta, included an overnight visit to our longtime friend Shirley Bergsma, whose Husband Al, was instrumental in the chartering of our club and was later nominated as an Honorary member.
Al suddenly passed away on August 4, 2015 and left a legacy.
Al, Past District Governor of District 5360, was a true leader. He was involved in many different areas. Boy Scouts, Church and, of course Rotary.
Ramiro and I have made a few RV trips together with Al and Shirley; After the Salt Lake City RI Convention, we travelled together, each in our RV, enjoying meals together, long walks and wonderful talks.
After Al passed away, West Country Family Services in Rocky Mountain House (of which Al was a board member) received a wheelchair-accessible van to transport patients. The van was dedicated to the memory of Al Bergsma.
We were very moved when Shirley showed us the Van with Al's picture on the rear window and the text "you are somebody's hero".
It's hard to forget wonderful friends such as these. We wish Shirley much strength as she once again is reminded of this tragic day on August 4th. Al was many people's hero.

I saw this mural on a main street in Bridgetown, Barbados yesterday. Rotary has a good presence here with three clubs. We are looking forward to attending a Rotary fundraiser for carnival next week.
Rotoract also seems to be strong on the island.
