Greeter this week: Jean-Michel Crepin

As Chair of the E-Club of Canada One Foundation Committee, it is always a pleasure to talk about the Rotary Foundation. Perhaps, what I will talk about may not be news to some but I have learned that we only remember 20% of what we are told. Therefore, one of my training principle during my professional life was "repeat, repeat, repeat". For example, we should all know that Fighting Disease and especially polio is a major focus of Rotary in the world with over USD 65 million been spent. Outside polio, Rotary is also focusing on over 100 diseases including malaria, AIDS prevention and Alzheimer. In addition to Fighting disease, the foundation supports projects in five major areas:
* Promoting Peace
* Providing Clean Water
* Saving Mothers and Children
* Supporting Education
* Growing Local Economies
The Rotary Foundation has over USD one billion in assets. Those funds are invested and the income provides the funds necessary to support those many activities. However, there is an indication that the value of these assets has decreased over the last 2 years and also, it seems, the total contributions.
As Rotarian, we should never forget that the foundation if the life and blood of Rotary and that giving to the Rotary Foundation is one of our responsibility. We can choose the area we want to support and we can select how we can give (monthly or annually) and how much. However, we need to first be registered to MyRotary at my.rotary.org. Once on the site we go to:
The Rotary Foundation > Give > Way to Give and follow the options.
It is also possible to give directly to a chosen project.

Please go to the site and inform yourself.

Comments from our Guests and Members
Members and guest attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you send us your comments please?

Texting is killing the language?  Young people have establish new conventions with texting.  It is a whole new form of writing, or as John says, "a new form of fingers speech".  Text is used as an extension of their language.  Mankind has evolved always in language.  This new text thing is no surprise. We keep evolving!
Nosberto Lou, RC of Guatemala North, D-4250

Texting is just another form of communication that will evolve as our written language has evolved in the past.
William Bell, RC of Lancaster, PA, USA, D-7390

Excellent presenter and enjoyed his word flow. I have always considered myself to a stickler for language and now it appears I am a dinosaur - LOL. Slash Enjoyed prior e-meetings from you and this was no exception. Piece on million dollar teacher also very interesting. Single people can make a difference.

Keith Evans, RC of Walton on Thames, England, D-1145

Really enjoyed the view of Nova Scotia from the drone, the Rotary Jukebox, Life is good, without sorrow upbeat song and attitudes.  The different way to approach conflict and disagreement from the speaker, Margaret Heffernan was enlightening.
Phyllip Pressey, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370
