Community Service Chair: Shanna Leslie
Shanna gave us an update on the Grant that we applied for and was approved. This is how we make a difference in our community and for the future.
Mission: Give underprivileged children the opportunity for a movie experience of a lifetime. These children have either spent their entire lives in crisis or are currently in a moment of crisis. Many likely have never had a break from the stress and anxiety that is in their lives. This movie experience is a chance for them to have an opportunity to have pure joy and fun in their lives. It exposes them to something new and different than they see every day. The Rotarians that will be volunteering at the event will be modeling of a life in service and promoting peace in their community. It is so much more than just a day at the movies. Star Wars characters will be there for a meet and greet and pictures with the children. Pizza will be served and each child will receive a themed goody bag. The children sponsored for this event will be from Unity Place and Stand Up Placer. There are two primary roles for Passport Rotary of the Sierra Foothills. First, sponsor children to attend the event, $50 per child.
Second, we will be volunteering at the event.
- Helping with checking children and their parents.
- Coordinating the experience prior to the movie.
- Serving pizza at the after party.
