President's Message
The 2017-2018 Rotary year is in full swing. It was great seeing everyone at the club meeting at the Elk’s Lodge. As mentioned at the meeting, I am very excited to be leading this club. Steven Lease did a phenomenal job leading us into the new Passport format, laying the groundwork, and creating our culture “Rotary on Your Schedule”. You will continue to hear that phrase and we will continue this culture of flexibility and demonstrating service above self. What I hope to achieve this year is a stronger infrastructure to deliver more club organization, create processes and procedures for better/easier member engagement, and set the course for our club’s continuing legacy in the future. There are exciting things happening and it will be a pleasure getting to share in the accomplishments together with you.

Foundation

2017 - 2018 Goals

One of our goals this year (and every year) should be 100% member participation in giving to The Rotary Foundation.  The Rotary Foundation is no fly-by-night operation that takes your money and squanders it.  91% of the funds are spent directly on programs.  This is the first year of The Rotary Foundation's second century.  The Foundation has received the highest recognition year after year from Charity Navigator.  The Association of Fundraising Professionals named it the Worlds Outstanding Foundation for 2016 and again for 2017.  CNBC named The Rotary Foundation one of the "Top 10 Charities Changing the World". Giving to The Rotary Foundation is an investment.  We invest because we know the money will be used wisely.  We invest because we see the dividends in the good works that accrue from our combined donations.
The Rotary Foundation has six areas of focus -
  • Promoting Peace
  • Providing Clean Water
  • Saving Mothers & Children
  • Supporting Education
  • Growing Local Economies
  • Fighting Diseases (including Polio).
Whatever your focus is ----Invest by Giving!

Nevada County Fair
This is a reminder that Nevada City Rotary’s major fun funding event (Nevada County Fair) is rapidly approaching. The Fair goes on for 5 full days August 9 - 13 at the beautiful Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley during which Nevada City Rotary has 100 shift positions to fill. Steven and I both volunteered with them and had an absolute blast. Really awesome people in that club. They are asking us if anyone is will to help them as they serve up pulled BBQ Pork and Shredded Chicken Sandwiches and enjoy the fellowship with other Rotarians from Nevada City and other surrounding Clubs. They provide a ticket to the Fair and a free sandwich on the day of your shift(s) to all who volunteer.

Please contact Robin directly at 530 263-1483 if you would like to volunteer.

Because the schedule is changing, they also post an updated copy (without phone numbers) on the website at http://ncrotary.org/content/2017-fair-schedule The schedule is easily accessible from the NCRotary.org’s Home page.

Acres of Hope Receives Best Non-Profit from the Auburn Journal

Who is “Acres of Hope”?

Acres of Hope provides a safe family environment and a healthy living program for women and children that sets the foundation of change and breaks the cycle of homelessness.  By identifying and replacing belief systems that drive destructive behaviors with biblically-based truths and the implementation of healthy life skills, we are improving the physical, emotional, social, economic and spiritual quality of life for homeless women and their children.  Our goal is to break the cycle of factors that lead to homelessness. The program at Acres of Hope is often considered the last program our residents should ever need.
