Trailer Prep This Weekend (6/08/2017)

Brewfest is almost here, so we need to get the trailer ready.
We have the food permit in hand (after more drama again), the BBQ is getting a tuneup, and the evaporative cooler is nearly operational.
This week's meeting will be a working one where we clean up the trailer in preparation for this Saturday.

Sunset Rotary and Kiwanis Team Up for Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program

Kiwanis and Rotary Support Equestrian Program

It was a great evening of friends, food, music and fun when Konnie and Terry McGruder hosted a fundraiser for the  Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program.  With around 120 people in attendance, they raised around $4000 for the cause with ticket sales, donations, and a silent auction.  CW Bayer provided the music and storytelling while everyone enjoyed the beautiful home and surroundings, and the plentiful food and beverages.  Here's a link to the story from the Nevada Appeal;  http://www.nevadaappeal.com/news/17897410-113/kiwanis-sunset-rotary-help-horse-program

Object of Rotary

Posted by Janice McCauley on Feb 07, 2013

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Avenues of Service

For years, Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self has been channeled through the Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of club activity.

The Four-Way Test

The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:

Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Mission

The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. See the RI Strategic Plan .

Diversity and Rotary

Rotary International recognizes the value of diversity within individual clubs. Rotary encourages clubs to assess those in their communities who are eligible for membership, under existing membership guidelines, and to endeavor to include the appropriate range of individuals in their clubs. A club that reflects its community with regard to professional and business classification, gender, age, religion, and ethnicity is a club with the key to its future.

FLAMINGO FLOCKING SEASON!

Posted by Cindy Wendell

ImageFlamingo Flocking Season

Sponsored by the Carson Sunset Rotary

          The Concept

Surprise someone with a front yard full of bright, pink flamingos!  For a donation, you can have a flock of flamingos migrate to just about any residential front lawn.  When you order flocking, members of the Flamingo Flocking crew, the "Flockers", will deliver approximately 12 to 60 birds to unsuspecting yards to where they have been directed to roost, usually arriving unnoticed in the cloak of darkness.  Imagine the priceless look on someone's face when they discover the brilliant colored flamingos taking sanctuary at their home! The flamingo flocking recipient will be left with an explanation, care instructions, and the number to the Flamingo Rescue Hotline.  After 24-48 hours the Flamingo Advanced Retrieval Team (FART) will remove the  flamingos and bring them to the next “victim”.

Why Flamingo Flocking?

Here are some great reasons to flock a friend:

  • Brighten someone's day
  • Great gift for someone who has everything
  • An experience that will long be remembered
  • You want someone's attention (or they need some!) Fun to give and fun to receive
  • All proceeds benefit CARSON SUNSET ROTARY YOUTH PROGRAMS!

Flocking Fundamentals

To make this Carson Sunset Rotary Fundraiser successful, please consider these guidelines before placing a flocking order.

·         Flocking should be done in good spirit and should never be meant to be malicious.

·         "Victim" should be good natured and have a sense of humor

·         Flocking can only take place in residential front yards (no apartments, condos, public places or businesses, please!)

·         Gated communities may be a problem.  Please be sure that we can easily arrange access into these areas for both delivery and pick-up)

·         Flamingos do not migrate outside of Carson City.

·         We want this fundraiser to be fun and safe for all involved, including our precious flamingos!

Avoid Getting Flocked

If you do not wish to be on the receiving end of a flocking, you can protect yourself for the entire flocking season by purchasing anti-flocking insurance, Cost of insurance is $10.00

Anti-flocking insurance is perfect for you if:

You are flamingo phobic

·         You would not like tacky, beady-eyed flamingos on your yard

·         You are afraid what others might think

·         You do not wish to be flocked "again"
