Mark Calendars: Our DG is Coming
Quincy Rotary meet your new District 5190 Governor, Kurt Rafetto, on Monday, Sept. 14. Kurt hails from the Rotary Club of Placerville.
If you wondered about the logo in our Bulletin title with the message “Aim High With Rotary” encircling the red airplane, well Kurt retired from 23 years in the US Air Force. He was a co-pilot, aircraft commander, and instructor pilot. His wife retired as a Colonel from the Air Force Reserves. Planes figure strongly in his DNA.
The meetings with our DG's are inspirational so mark those calendars.
Plumas Underburn Cooperative
Johnnie Bruce - the Program Manager for Plumas Underburn Cooperative (PUC) - provided an enthusiastic overview of his agency's work. Johnnie describes PUC as “Citizens helping citizens to promote healthy, resilient forests and communities through the use of fire.”
An interesting angle to Johnnie's presentation is that he was hired for his position while he was completing his final semester at FRC. He was one of the first students to graduate from FRC's newest Bachelors of Science degrees - Ecosystem Restoration & Applied Fire Management. He is a local boy who moved, then returned as an adult and enrolled in the 2-year program. Just as he was finishing that, the 4-year degree program was established, and Johnnie continued on for a Bachelors. And then, he found a job before he even graduated! That's impressive.
Perhaps some members have invited PUC to their homes to get the structures hardened against future fires. You can request a site visit to discuss what RX fire could look like on your property and become informed on benefits, liability and risks. Also, you can become a member of the organization.
