Welcome to Quincy Rotary
Born & bred in Quincy, Mark Leonhardt (son of Rotarian Chuck) took a 2 decade long hiatus from his hometown. Upon his return, Mark has decided to join Quincy Rotary sponsored by decades long friend Johnny Mansell.

A bit about Mark - He grew up in Quincy, graduating from QHS. He then studied engineering at UC Santa Barbara. He continues to work for a company in Santa Barbara, now remotely, on robotic submarines - that is a first for our club. His son, Matt, won our club's Speech Contest and then won the Area contest. Matt competes in a week at the Regionals.

Welcom to Quincy Rotary, Mark.

Vishing Vs. Phishing
What's the difference between Vishing and Phishing?

Vishing: fraudulent phone calls that induce you to reveal personal information.

Phishing: fraudulent e-mails and websites meant to steal data.

Both are scams; beware!

Investigator Chrissy Vickrey, from the Plumas County Sheriff's Office, offered tips on avoiding life-altering scams when she presented at Rotary. Seen in photo with good friend Zoe S., Chrissy has spent 10 years in law enforcement, first in Corrections, then Patrol and now in Investigations. She has seen locals fall for scammers, costing thousands of dollars.

Scammers disguise themselves as government agents or bank personnel or even family members. Here's a scenario: a fraudster calls the victim saying they are from their bank or another institution and informs them that there is a problem with their account or credit card. The victim agrees to give personal information like bank account numbers, and then, bam, their money disappears from that account.

How should we protect ourselves? Be aware of scammers' methods. If suspicious of an interaction, contact the Plumas County Sheriff's Office and talk to Chrissy.
