Last Week's Program - Rotary in Ukraine
As the 1st anniversary of Russian's invasion of Ukraine is upon us, Karen Kleven presented a video outlining Rotary's humanitarian efforts in war torn Ukraine. Rotary Clubs throughout the world have distributed food to Ukrainians in the hardest hit cities, preparing meals and delivering beds and bedding to those in bomb shelters. They delivered food to railway workers who were transporting people across borders on trains. Rotarians helped evacuate many and created refugee centers for them. Medicine was delivered to hospitals and clinics. Rotarians lent help for pets that were left behind in the rush to evacuate; many of the abandoned animals were living on the streets. Money was raised; gasoline purchased; clothes bought for refugee children.
As we grow weary of the nightly news reports on the war in Ukraine, as it seemingly goes on forever, we nonetheless must remain vigilant and see that support is there for people in a dire situation due to no fault of their own. In the recent Rotary magazine in the article "Life During Wartime," Alex Ray, a Rotarian from New Hampshire who donated and raised millions for humanitarian effort in Ukraine states, "Our organization - Rotary - gives us the power to help."
Members of the Week - Rotarians at Large
The Power of Rotary was on display in the film Quincy Rotary viewed on Monday. When there is a call for support for Ukraine, Rotarians from around the world answer. Rotary in action is powerful!
