RYLA Leads The Way
Monday brought QHS leaders - Anna Mercer, Macy Peay & Simone Smith - who are Quincy Rotary's outstanding representatives to RYLA -- Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening. RYLA is an intense and challenging leadership camp, sponsored by California and Nevada Rotary Districts 5180 of Northern California and 5190 of Northern Nevada, and has been designed to engender passion, resilience, determination, mental toughness, gratitude and compassion.
These three proved worthy recipients of this challenge. Anna said the camp was "life changing," particularly the Bike Building Project which QR donated to. Anna shared that she was one of those kids who needed the gift of a bike, and here she was constructing bikes for youth like her. Simone said, "RYLA helped me become who I want to be today." And Macy added, "RYLA creates the who you want to be in your future."
RYLA instills in the participants the value of Service above Self, a core Rotary belief. QR's investment in these young people seems well worth the cost.
Be the example
Quincy Rotary recognizes Kory Felker as Quincy Rotary's newest Paul Harris Fellow. Continuing the legacy of Rotary's founder, the Paul Harris Fellow program recognizes individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
Inspired by Youth
This upcoming Monday brings us more inspiring local young people. Quincy Rotary's six REGL (Rotary Eighth Grade Leadership) representatives will share their experiences at their leadership camp. The purpose of REGL is to provide high quality leadership training with a strong emphasis on ethics to selected 8th grade students who have demonstrated leadership skills. They are another example of Quincy Rotary's investment in youth.
