Hope for a Brighter Future
Newly elected Plumas County District 4 Supervisor and new-ish Quincy Rotarian, Mimi Hall, spoke Monday about the role of California counties and supervisors. One take-away is that California counties are recognized political and administrative subdivisions of the State and operate many of the State's activities. And all of the 58 California counties are divided into 5 districts with near to equal populations no matter the size of the county. A county is authorized to make and enforce local ordinances that don't conflict with general laws; a county can sue and be sued; and the powers of a county can only be exercised by the Board of Supervisors. Hence the importance of electing a good supervisor who can exercise those powers.
Looking back in notes taken when then candidate Mimi spoke to Rotary in March 2024, I found her statement on why she wanted to become a Plumas County Supervisor, "I want to be a strong representative, well managed, fiscally responsible for a vibrant economy and brighter future.
During Mimi's presentation on Monday, she reiterated a "Hope for a Brighter Future." Gleaning from her talk, Mimi Hall does her homework, reaches out to statewide county agencies, and dedicates hours to her work - work she officially doesn't begin until January 2025! We can feel hopeful with that kind of dedication at the helm of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors.
