Rotary enjoyed a Craft Faire last Monday! Local artisans included Emily Webb, owner of Emily's Garden, jewelry designer Judy Dailey, quilter Carolyn Kenney, and Quincy Rotary's own Fred Surber, with his whimsical woodwork. Each displayed their creations and shared their compelling origin stories.
Emily began her shop 12 years ago, but before that she ran a burgeoning wholesale business. Starting in 1981 out of her laundry room in Taylorsville, she created bath and body items which were shipped to fine retailers and hotels. She then spied a For Rent sign on a small space on Main Street, and switched from wholesaler to shopkeeper.
Judy is a 1972 grad of QHS and attended FRC. She taught herself the ancient art of creating wire jewelry by watching videos. Now she has mastered the art of copper-electro forming to produce statement pieces.
Carolyn is a retired PDH nurse who took up quilting as a hobby and eventually taught quilt-making at FRC. Her masterful, and colorful, quilts are sold at Comfort Creations. Also, Carolyn sews Cuddle Quilts for those in need with the help of her group the Crazy Quilters.
Fred took up woodworking 30 years ago using plain lumber found in stores. He produces fanciful seasonal figurines like reindeers and angels. In addition he creates attractive, and useable, wooden bowls sold locally at Comfort Creations.
Several Rotarians could be seen making purchases, which were boxed or wrapped and ready to put under the Christmas Tree. Or, if you were like me, the purchased item was a gift to myself - a gift ready to be used during this holiday season!
