Scouts' Honor
Who knew that The Boy Scouts of America or BSA is no longer gender specific and that girls can be scouts just like boys? Times are changing, but the mission is the same: "The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law," Scouts' honor.
Quincy Rotary learned about Scouting in Plumas County from guests Alex Pangburn - local Troop Committee Chair; Nikki Grose-Orvis, Cub Master; and David Orvis, Assistant Scoutmaster of Quincy Troop and Pack 15.
The local troop take scouts to summer camp, and also plan one campout per month. The program builds life skills along with family fun. The troop is looking for skilled volunteers, so if you enjoy the outdoors and have same free time, contact Alex at: davi.alexandra@gmail.com
Just like Rotarians, scouts are trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
Leading All The Way
Leadership can be taught and that is one of Rotary's commitments to young people. Quincy Rotary sent a total of 7 local students to leadership camp, located at Grizzley Creek Ranch outside Portola. On Monday, we heard about the students' experiences during their stay. One take-away - the Ropes Course was a hit!
REGL - for 8th graders and only a weekend - and RYLA - for high school seniors lasting one week - are intense and incredibly challenging programs, sponsored by California and Nevada Rotary Districts 5180 of Northern California and 5190 of Northern Nevada. Both are designed to engender passion, resilience, determination, mental toughness, gratitude and compassion. And both instill in the participants the value of Service above Self, a core Rotary belief.

Encourage Leadership of Youth by Youth
Recognize Publicly Young People who are Rendering Service to their Communities
The REGL's include Cooper, Blake, Bradley, Colton, and Adelia who spent a weekend at their leadership camp.
These awesome campers - Ava & Kaitlyn - spent a week at RYLA and returned leaders extraordinaire!
The Ropes Course was the favorite activity for both REGL's and RYLA's!
Greenhorn Ranch
Quincy Rotary enjoyed the Greenhorn Ranch Social last week. The appetizers were plentiful, the evening beautiful and the company entertaining!
