PUSD's Fiscal Problems: Questions and Some Answers
Andrea White, PCOE Superintendent, Interim PUSD Superintendent, and Student Services Director, along with Jennifer Nesbit, Human Resources Supervisor and Classified HR Specialist, spoke Monday at Quincy Rotary. There were a lot of questions about the $20 million loan from California State that the school district has received after revealing a fiscal collapse. The loan could take 20 to 30 years to repay.
Plumas Unified School District is currently working closely with the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) as serious financial challenges are addressed. As part of this process, the district has entered into a state receivership in order to stabilize financial operations and ensure long-term sustainability.
Not sure we learned any more information then we already had heard, mainly through the Grapevine. One major issue with the district, which the women confirmed, has been communication. The women offered to return to Rotary soon with some updates. The members all agreed that would be helpful.
A Quincy Rotary Bucket List
Monday's meeting, an Assembly, provides club members the opportunity to sign-up for a (work)team to assist in 2025-2026. It's a way to engage wholeheartedly with Quincy Rotary. The July 2025 edition of the Rotary Magazine laid out check off for all Rotarians including some seen below:
Sponsor a new club member.
Volunteer at the next Highway Clean-up.
Meet with club members outside of a formal Rotary meeting.
Broaden your Rotary Friendship circle and find inspiration at your district conference.
Donate to The Rotary Foundation (did you know that it takes only 60 cents to protect a child from Polio?).
Build a team with a Board member to enhance either Public Image, Membership, Rotary Foundation, Youth Services, or RYE.
Engagement is a key component of Rotary. Rotarians are people of action. Remember the RI two official Mottoes: Service Above Self and One Profits Most Who Serves Best.
