Young Leaders
Quincy High School students Kendrick Gay, Chance McElroy, Jovie Lerch, Jemma Trueblood, Anja Blaufuss, and Audrey Felker (Rotarian Kory's daughter) made Quincy Rotary proud as they shared REGL leadership camp experiences at Rotary on Monday. RotaryEighth Grade Leadership (REGL) is a professionally delivered 3-day intensive leadership training seminar sponsored by Rotary.
Each of the QHS students mentioned the program's Ropes Course as memorable. Audrey called it a "Trust Course." They all described feeling initially out of their comfort zones, but then they began to reach out to others and felt accepted for who they were. Plus, they were able to take a break from their daily lives, meet new friends, and learn new skills. REGL develops character, fosters creativity, teaches conflict resolution, and breeds leaders. From today’s youth, come our future leaders. The cost of sending these students to camp is well worth Rotary's investment.

Welcome to Quincy Rotary Tom McMeekin! Doctor McMeekin that is. Tom is a practicing dermatologist and plans to set up a practice in Quincy part-time as well as Reno. He returned to Quincy after graduating from Quincy High some time ago because he fell re-in-love with Quincy Local Nancy Gambell. They were high school sweethearts who lost touch but then found each other again.
After QHS, Tom graduated from Stanford, went to Rochester, N.Y. for med school. Then on to Harvard for an internship, then returned to Rochester to set up a practice. Somewhere along the way he returned to Harvard. Also, he was moving to Florida when he reconnected with Nancy and that led him to Quincy. Tom and Nancy were on NBC's Today Show sharing their love story with Hoda and Jenna after blowing up the Internet with his proposal in a Florida airport.
Exciting life! Here's to Tom bringing that kind of excitement to Quincy Rotary!
