Mark Your March 2023 Calendars
Remember: It's a 5:30 pm Dinner Meeting this Mon., March 13 for the 2023 Rotary Music Contest at Quincy Elementary - Alder Campus. Spouses are invited. Thus far 3 accomplished high school musicians are on the schedule.
Quincy Rotary is hosting the Area Speech and Music Contest on Sat., March 18, 10 am to noon at the Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend.
Reminder: Save the date for the evening of Friday, March 31 for the Annual Area Foundation Dinner. This event will include the Greenville, Portola, and Loyalton clubs, as well as, the District Governor and the District Governor Elect. More details to follow.
A Welcome to New Rotarians!
Welcome Joseph Niesyn and Zoella "Zoe" Stancer to Quincy Rotary. Joe is the Executive Director for a non-profit - Feather River Tourism Association. Zoe is is the Hospital Safety Officer at PDH and President Darren's office mate. We look forward to getting to know Joe and Zoe!
Last Monday's Speakers/Speeches
Monday featured the 6 inspirational entries in the 2023Rotary Speech Contest. QHS Senior Savannah Little - Rotarian David L.'s daughter - won first, touching on her time at RYLA where she learned it takes a community, funds, and a desire to make things happen and Rotary is an example of this. Second place winner, freshman Madeline Blausfuss spoke about 2 bake sales she organized as a 4th grader and as a 6th grader in memory of her grandfather who suffered from Alzheimer's. Raising a combined total of $2700, Madeline donated the money to a group focusing on Alzheimer's research. Third place went to Adria Black who admitted she was terrified of public speaking, but grateful for the opportunity to make herself better. Fourth place winner Tessa Batiste said that basketball has shown her the value of effort and teamwork. Abby Warren, also in 4th, said, "Nothing you do is too small to make a speech about it if it is helping others." Also in 4th, Madeline Baker spoke about "Showing up and doing the work." All 6 deserve a round of applause!
Member of the Week - Sarah Gallagher
Sarah did a bang-up job emceeing Monday's Speech Contest. Working behind the scenes in events like the Speech and Music Contests, Sarah always brings heart to her work - and we all benefit!
