He Wants to Be a Hero
Impacting the world for the better is a goal of Matthew - Winner of the 2025 Quincy Rotary Speech Contest. He wants to be a hero.
In his speech, Matthew (son of Rotarian Mark Leonhardt) shared a letter written to his mother - his real hero. Clocking in at 4 min., 48 secs, just 12 secs shy of the 5 minute limit, Matt spoke about the impact of his mother, the impact of Rotary and the impact of his own work.
His impact already includes initiating a game club in the back of The Toy Store for teen groups to play Dungeons & Dragons and other table-top games. Also, with the ok of his principal, Matthew helped establish group therapy sessions at QHS. He sees that teens with mental health disorders is a problem and he wants to help solve it.
Matthew, aka "Matticus" to his game partners, intends to be a hero - like the every day heroes he sees in Rotary, and like the hero he sees in his mom, and like the hero he is becoming.
Now Matthew moves on to the Area Contest.

Parks & Rec
On Monday, James (Tug) Shipp, General Manager of Central Plumas Recreation and Park District, gave Rotary a update on community activities. The District just built the awesome Quincy Bike Park utilizing its unused, unbuildable property next to the high school. The park taps into the vibrant biking community in Plumas County.
Let us not forget that Quincy Rotary invested in some CPRPD projects including finding a 1/4 of a million dollars to build the Skate Park which is in need of repairs. And the Quincy Rotary Pavilion is housed at Pioneer Park. The public swimming pool is home to the Quincy Swim Team which Rotary supports.
In addition, the District offers Pickleball, volleyball, basketball and other activities that help keep our community healthy and fit.
Rotarians Host Music Makers
This Wednesday, Feb. 19 evening (5:30 pm) Rotary hosts the Annual Music Contest for high schoolers at Quincy Elementary School, Alder Campus which includes dinner. Therefore there will be no Monday lunch meeting.
