District 5190 Governor Dennis Geare visited Quincy Rotary Monday. His day began at a morning meeting with the Quincy Rotary Board including Jeb, Jim B., Darren, Mike S., John S. David L., David W., John B., Jody, Lisa, and Beth.
Then on to the general meeting where Dennis honored multiple Rotarians. Kory received a Paul Harris +3 Fellow; Johnny a +1 Fellow; and Doug Prouty, who was absent, a +1 Fellow. Rotarians become Paul Harris Fellows when they give $1000 or more to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant.
The next award was to the Silent Rotarian - Herschel - for his unsung, behind the scenes, setup of all QR meetings. The last award went to the Heartbeat of Rotary which I, Beth Reid, your Bullentin'er - gratefully accepted.
When asked how QR fared with other clubs in the District, Dennis shared that small, rural communities like Quincy fill much of District 5190. Yet the work of even small Rotary Clubs can change lives. Rotary projects - big and small - have the power to make our communities a better place - but only if we engage our members to be committed, focused and relevant to both our local and international communities.
A music lover, Dennis picked a perfect day to visit QR. The 2-lead actor/singers in the upcoming musical, Once, at The West End Theatre, previewed an Academy Award winning song at the meeting. Serendipitous in that Dennis's DG theme is Rotarians Make Beautiful Music! As DG Dennis says, every project, every donation, every scholarship and every selfless, kind act is a beautiful song to our community.
