Welcome to another issue of our bulletin! Can you believe August is almost over? Well, next Monday, the last day of August, Rotary has a great speaker, so mark your calendars. Also, find out who our speakers were last week, and learn a bit of our newest members' bios, and meet our co-caterer.
Plumas County CTE Initiators
The heads of the Plumas County's Career Technical Education (CTE) program spoke to Quincy Rotary on Monday. Gabe Miller represents FRC, Shasta, Tahoe and Lassen Colleges, Rachel Molsee, represents PUSD, and Taletha Washburn represents Plumas Charter School.
CTE is a sequence of classes combining academics with technical and occupation skills, creating pathways to college and careers. Why does this matter for Plumas County students? Because CTE connects them to the skills, credentials, and experiences like internships that our county needs. These pathways address actual labor-market demand, helping local students find a future in this region so that they will stay and live productive lives.
A Little Background on Newbies
The newest Quincy Rotarians gave a little background about themselves at Monday's meeting. It's always interesting to hear people's stories and Andrea and Richard did not disappoint.
Andrea - Plumas County Office of Education Superintendent and Student Services Director - was born and raised in Plumas County. She worked as a teacher including kindergarten and administrator in Sierra County for 23 years before moving to PUSD two years ago. Richard - PUSD Appointed Administrator - taught middle school in Susanville and then moved to Red Bluff where he was a teacher, principal and acting superintendent. Richard has been a Rotarian - five years in Susanville and ten years in Red Bluff.
Our club welcomes Andrea and Richard's fresh perspectives and energy.
Co-Caterer Kim
On Monday, our co-caterer, Kim Brandon, from Grandma Jane's on Main Street in downtown Quincy, served our lunch. Kim and Amanda, from A&J's Bakery, who you met last week, will share the catering opportunity for Quincy Rotary. Each business owner has selected their dates for the year already.
If you get a chance, introduce yourself to Kim. She is pretty busy, so she often won't be around for our meetings, but head into Grandma Jane's to say hello and treat yourself to some delicious cakes, cookies, and pastries.

Johnnie Bruce from Plumas Underburn/Firewise will be the Quincy Rotary speaker next Monday, Aug. 31 at the Mineral Building.
