The new Superintendent of Plumas Unified School District, William Roderick, attended last Monday's meeting as a guest of Dwight Pierson. Roderick will be the speaker at this coming Monday's meeting to be held at the PUSD District Office.
A polio case was detected in New York, which is the first case in the U.S. since 2013. During Monday's meeting, David Windle commented that the person most likely contracted the disease from someone who received a live polio vaccine. Since the live version is cheaper to administer, several countries choose this version to cut costs. This U.S. case reminds us of the critical need for the Rotary Foundation's focus on the eradication of polio through the Paul Harris Society and its PolioPlus Fund.
4-H members - sorry, former 4-H members - Rick Leonhardt and Darren Beatty - did not show their market animals as promised at Monday's meeting. In fact, no current 4-H members were available to attend the meeting. However, Rick and Darren presented an excellent overview of the benefits that 4-H provides young people. Both were active 4-H participants in their younger years and raised market animals. Their point: 4-H membership breeds future leaders and committed community members, perhaps future Rotary members. Hope to see many of you at the Livestock Sale, Sunday, July 31, 9:00 am at the Plumas County Fairgrounds Sale Pavilion.
Brenda Roccucci should have been last week's recipient for organizing, yet again, another successful Community Supper! Her organizational skills are topped only by her culinary aptitude. We sooo appreciate her take-charge, and always pleasant, attitude.
