The Drive Through Flu Vaccination Clinic at the Fairgrounds is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4. A sign-up sheet will be passed at the next meeting, 9/26/22. Help is needed to assist with traffic and to collect Polio Plus Donations.
Just when we thought Polio had been eradicated, the first polio case in nearly a decade was identified in July in New York. Officials said an unvaccinated man was infected by the virus that had been shed from someone who received the oral polio vaccine, which has not been administered in the U.S. since 2000. The oral vaccine is safe, but contains small amounts of weakened live virus that can circulate and strengthen if communities are under-vaccinated.
In September, the virus was detected in a New York county's wastewater sample. New York's governor declared a state of emergency over the growing polio outbreak.
In the U.S. and abroad, the Rotary Foundation helps raise money (i.e. through Polio Plus fundraisers) to provide the equipment and effective vaccines needed to wipe out this sometimes disabling and life-threatening virus.
Last Week's Speaker
Feather River College Head Rodeo Coach, Tess Turk, spoke at Rotary on Monday, and showcased the multi-talented, nationally recognized Men's and Women's Teams. The Men's team placed #12 in the National Final's Rodeo this summer. And Tess was named Coach of the Year for the West Coast Region.
Quincy hosts the annual Feather River College Rodeo at the Plumas/Sierra County Fairgrounds Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1. Two and Four-year colleges, mostly from California, compete over the weekend, bringing lots of business to our community. In addition, Rodeo performances, starting at 6 pm, are free to the public.
