Dr. Cathy Fitzgerald, a Ph.D. in Engineering, with a strong background in hydrology, will update Rotary Monday, April 24, about her Kenyan water project. Eighteen years ago, Quincy Rotary was seeking a meaningful international project to satisfy one of the 7 areas of focus of Rotary International. Those areas are promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment. Dr. Fitzgerald’s project fit the bill. Quincy Rotary continues to support the project, and we look forward to being updated.

Where's the Beef? Monday's Lesson
Who knew FRC breeds genetically superior beef or has 50 head of cattle? FRC instructors, J.P. Tanner & Russell Reid, hosted Monday's meeting at FRC's Beef Unit which, though a bit blustery for outdoor dining, proved very educational. The two are leads in the nationally recognized Equine and Ranch Management Bachelor's Degree, one of the 1st allowed at a California Community College. The Ag Department has roughly 250 students enrolled with 12 to 18 graduating with a BA after 4 years. One incentive is the low cost of the degree; it's only $11,000 per student which is less than 1/2 the cost of other California public colleges. Students learn state-of-the-art breeding practices like artificial insemination. One goal for graduates of the program is to be able to run a large production ranch. The FRC facilities, with a corral system designed to lower the stress of the cattle, was impressive.
Member of the Week
Though teased a lot, Chuck Leonhardt is working hard to get the Golf Tournament's Tee-Signs sold which brings $$$ to the Club's Coffers so Rotary can continue to give to the community. Give him a break - buy a Tee Sign!
