Audrey Selby, Feather River College's Director of Upward Bound, one of three Federal TRiO programs that assist low income, first generation college bound students spoke at Monday's meeting.
Upward Bound currently offers services to 56 local high school students at Portola High School, Quincy High School, Greenville High School, Chester High School, Plumas Charter School, and Indian Valley Academy. Services are provided in a variety of methods including: weekly advising, lunch meetings, after-school tutoring, Saturday academies, SAT/ACT study groups, and college visitations.
UB works with students to explore their college options. Students perform college searches where they investigate entrance requirements, cost, majors offered, student life, and demographics and match them with their own personal values. UB provides information on college admissions, application deadlines, scholarships, education planning, and financial aid.
Judging all that Audrey organizes for local students, it seems prudent to contact her when Quincy Rotary is looking for participants for RYLA and REGL, the Speech and Music Contest, and the Quincy Rotary Scholarships.
