DOUGLAS COUNTY RODEO

7/31 — Social at the Club House, 1029 Riverview Drive, Gardnerville. A No-host food/drinks “informal meeting” from 5 – 6:30.  No lunchtime meeting. 

8/8 — Rotary Club’s Hot Dog Stand at Minden Park where you can enjoy the Concert in the Park at the same time.

8/8 — MEFIYI –  All 4 Charity" King Crab & Steak Cookout at Great Basin in Minden, beginning at 5:30. If you’re not working the Hot Dog stand at Minden Park, please consider supporting MEFIYI as they were very helpful at our Giving Cup golf tournament this past May.

8/22  RYE (Rotary Youth Exchange) Welcome Party at the LAMPE Park. See below for more info. 

8/27 Club Social at the ACES baseball game, 6pm.  Contact Dick Schwabe for tickets.

August 22 & 23 — Pizza Party at Lampe Park. 

Eleven RYE students will arrive at Lampe Park for a Pizza party on Friday evening. Then on Saturday morning they will assemble at 8:30 for orientation at the Community Center that will conclude by 3 and will be followed by a swim party at Round Hill Beach. 

Zach is needing families to host our incoming International Students for just 2 nights Friday August 22nd and Saturday night August 23rd

INBOUND EXCHANGE STUDENT
Our inbound student next year is Danella from San Cervia Italy.  She enjoys watching the local soccer team, but is not a soccer player.   If you are interested in an amazing chance to host for 3 months, please contact Zach.
 
OUTBOUND EXCHANGE STUDENTS
Our outbound exchange student for next year, Kylie, has been working jobs and other fundraising efforts to help assist with her travel costs.  Four weeks ago, she came to the club to give an update on her progress.  Rotarians opened their pockets and, together with a donation from our foundation, helped Kylie out with nearly $2000. 
 
Our outbound exchange student for this year, Samantha, will be returning soon.  Looking forward to hearing about all of her adventures in an upcoming presentation!

FUTURE HAPPENINGS WHERE YOU CAN GET INVOLVED: 

September 20 — President Graham brought an invitation/plea from the Serotoma Club to join forces (hand over) at the Octoberfest fundraiser at the Heritage Park on September 20th .

October 4 — Howard V. promoted The Library Gala, which will be on October 4th at the CVI. Rotary has filled up one table of 10, looking to see if we can fill a second table.

October 4 — Main Street Gardnerville is hosting their Annual Coffin Races & Fall Festival at Heritage Park in Gardnerville from 9:00am – 3:00pm. Prez Graham wants the Club to put a team together. The concept is to recruit strong football players to carry a small lightweight cheerleader for our club. . . good planning!

November 8 — Ferris 50 Update — President Graham has snatched up the Swag-Bag Sponsorship for The Ferris 50 which gives our club maximum exposure for a minimum price of $750. Look for signing up to volunteer for this inaugural event on November 8th.

June 13 (2026) — Carson Valley Days Parade.Club will be making a float for Carson Valley Days float for our 100 year anniversary. Skip P.  (and his twin brother Chip…) is already working on next year’s float, along with Pat, who has a flat-bed truck. The idea is to create a large Rotary symbol/emblem with our club name for the top. The side panels would read The Rotary Club of Minden 100 Years of Serving the Carson Valley. Artistic minds will be needed to carry out/flesh-out the concept.

Douglas County Rodeo

09.05.25 - 09.07.25 Gardnerville, NV

Justin Schlag spoke to the Rotary Club of Minden on July 24th about the “new and improved” Douglas County Rodeo which has come back after an approximately 15-20 year hiatus. The Rodeo will offer heart-pounding action with bronc riding, bulls, wild horse racing (Xtreme Broncs), barrel racing, breakaway, mutton bustin, and team roping. 
 
This not-to-be-missed series of events will begin on September 4th at the CVI with the very popular Cow Pasture Boxing (or Douglas County Rodeo Fight Night) and conclude on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm.

 

But that's not all! Bring the whole family for Kid's Day (Friday & Saturday), featuring bounce houses and activities galore. Explore the offerings of local artisanal vendors, tantalize your taste buds at our food trucks, and discover incredible artistry at the Tattoo Convention by Tiger Tattoo.

 

Cap off your evenings after the rodeo with live music under the stars! Rodney Atkins will take the stage Friday night and Aaron Watson Saturday night. Keep the party going at our afterparty headquarters right on the rodeo grounds.

 

Sunday, September 7th will be free entry to the community to come enjoy Cowboy Church in the arena at 9:00am with Pastor Rich followed by a jackpot barrel race and team roping. Vendors, food trucks and bars will still be open until 4:00pm.

 

This is an event for everyone, where the community comes together to celebrate. Your ticket grants you access to all the day's events, including the rodeo and concerts. Children 6 and under enter free, ages 7-15 enjoy discounted child tickets, and those 16 and older can purchase adult tickets.

 

The numbers of participants is impressive amounting to 12,000 including vendors and 89 sponsors who have raised over $200,000 for this event. The Douglas County Mounted Posse will be managing parking, Wells Fargo and the High School Rodeo team along with Douglas County High School students will be volunteering along with many other groups in the county. To insure adequate seating for the events, additional bleacher seating has been acquired

Did you know that the Rotary Club of Minden will be celebrating 100 years of service in 2026? (as will Route 66 and Highway 101!)  A committee has been formed to work on the celebration date, type of celebration and all the details.  Let Dick Schwabe or Lori Breyer know if you are interested in participating.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: 

August 8th; opening for the last 2 spots during the early shift for our Hot Dog Stand at the Minden Park Concert in the Park.

Speaker Committee — Prez Graham could use 2 or 3 people to brainstorm ideas on future speakers and topics. Many thoughts were tossed around, such as speakers from the Roads dept, Building dept, Schools and recipients of our grants.

PR Committee — Involves taking notes for the Bulletin. Lori has understandably bowed out of that responsibility. Thankfully, Milly will take the pictures and process the bulletin. So the load will be relatively easy. Ken Miller stepped up and offered to help. This could be shared among club members as we are all traveling.
