Cori Rosa - Owner/Operator of Soft Landing Senior Horse Rescue with Minden Rotary President Pat Garrahan

HORSES LIVE A LONG LOVING LIFE

 

When former horse rider and trainer Cori Rosa moved from Santa Cruz to Nevada, she decided to fill a need to take in older horses and allow them to live out their life rather than {be euthanized at a facility in Fallon}.  She shared with Minden Rotarians that she keeps the horses on her property and currently has about 15 of them.  She has had up to 25 of them in the past.  Six were received skinny and broken.  Some of them have been found on Craig’s list - offered for $1.  Others have been referred to her upon the death of the horse owner.  Her own daughter’s horse lived to be 34.

 

Ms. Rosa has named the operation “Soft Landing”  She does not currently charge to take in the horses and is funding their living expenses on her own - a huge expense for which she would appreciate the community’s help.  She shared that she is “grateful and would not change her current career - there is so much satisfaction in having 15 hungry faces every morning.”

FAMILY SUPPORT COUNCIL RECEIVES A PORTION OF THE GOLF TOURNAMENT PROCEEDS AND BOOK PILLOWS

 

Veronica LaChance (left) , Executive Director at the Family Support Council in Douglas Council received a check for $4,100 as the primary beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds from the 2026 Minden Rotary Golf Tournament.  In addition, the organization received twelve book pillows and books for the children they support.  The book pillows were made by the Carson Valley Quilters Guild with funding provided by the Minden Rotary Club.  Stacey Jenkins (middle) is the Community Quilts Chairperson for the Quilters Guild.  Proud Minden Rotary President Pat Garrahan is on the right.

Howard Vipperman, Minden Rotary Club Foundation President presents a check for $1.500 to Madi Francis, our outgoing Rotary Youth Exchange student to help with her expenses abroad next year.

August 1, 11am-2pm - Young at Heart Summer BBQ.  Fundraiser for Senior Programs.  Tickets $10 presale or $15 at the door.  Live Music, raffle, outdoor games.

August 27 - Club social at Aces baseball game. They play the River Cats. Tickets behind home plate are $55.

August 28 - Hotdogs at Minden Concerts in the Park - 2 shifts each time, 4-6P and 6-8P.
