Public Restroom Company’s mission is to design and build custom, innovative, and high-quality prefabricated buildings to deliver peace of mind and enrich communities.
PRC was founded December 6, 2002 and established a presence in Minden in 2014. They employ 85 people and are a privately held business. PRC is active in 32 states and can serve the entire US.
Minden Rotary took a tour of Public Restroom Company, on 2/5/26. PRC builds cinder-block buildings, primarily public restrooms for community parks and public spaces, guard shacks, concession stands (with restrooms) and splash parks. PRC has delivered buildings throughout the US.
When working at the State or municipality level PRC provides design and engineering services, installation and expertise to design the buildings. This business model cuts down the construction time dramatically resulting in savings for the consumer. PRC uses locally sourced materials as much as possible. PRC has all of the “trades” needed under one roof to facilitate construction.
We walked through the plant to see the various stages of construction. The construction starts with a concrete base with access holes to accommodate plumbing/heating fixtures. Next is the side walls with a side room for the mechanical infrastructure. All of the mechanics and fixtures are within the side room and walls and are accessible to authorized personnel, lessening vandalism. While the walls are being constructed the roof is constructed, cutting down on overall build time. The Units are built to the customer’s specifications to blend into the surrounding area.
The process for the building, from start of the paperwork to actual completion of a building, takes about one year. But they are only in construction for 8-12 weeks. They deliver on time and on budget. In the yard were several completed buildings waiting for the sites to be prepped. Buildings are built in Minden to customer’s specifications, dis-assembled and delivered on site and then reassembled by PRC crews. The buildings are oversized for the road and require special transportation. Buildings weigh between 50-60K pounds picked up by a gigantic blue dolly.
Almost half of their business is in CA. The 2024 “Toilet-gate*” fiasco in San Francisco brought a lot of publicity to PRC. At the time, PRC was not able to sell SF a building so they donated one. SF since changed the law and PRC has 3-4 restrooms throughout SF. *(SF had planned to build a toilet at a cost of $1.7M for a restroom that PRC would have sold to them for $130K).
PRC’s vision is to improve communities by delivering better places to go. From the moment we started the tour and to the end, we could see that they have fulfilled their Vision.
