Dear Rotary,
I wanted to thank you for the art drying rack, paint, and other supplies that have enriched many kindergarten days already! The above photo shows paintings the children did when we harvested radishes from our school garden. Another item from the Rotary club grant was an electric frying pan. We harvested tomatoes and herbs and made a delicious pasta sauce! Thank you for supporting our schools so generously!

Library Director and Rotarian, Tim DeGhelder
Tim DeGhelder, Library Director, started in retail in college when he was working toward his teaching degree. He went for his master’s degree in library science in Maryland, then returned to St. Louis where he grew up. He went on to spend 22 years at that library district, using his teaching degree in various ways during that time. Prior to moving to Nevada, Tim spent three years teaching English in Thailand. He and his wife then moved to the US, where he landed in Texas for a short time, and then came to Douglas County where they couldn’t be happier.
Their children are 11 and 15, and while Tim taught in Thailand he realized that the Buddhist culture there resulted in no bullying, and a high value on education.
Tim’s goal is simple: Make the library for everyone.
Some library stats:
65% of Douglas County residents have a library card.
Materials in circulation: Adult 143,769, Child 50,739
15,000 books were recycled (donated/sold/used)
1,500 volunteer hours, started with zero volunteers after the pandemic
15 public PC stations
Money saved to the public by using the library resources: $4,879,826
October 15 will be the ribbon cutting in Lampe Park for the story walk panels. The story will change monthly and begins at the playground and winds around the park. There are 20 panels to read, and the library is looking for sponsors.
