What do Joan Collins, Tony Bennett, Alfred Hitchcock, Dean Martin, Fred Astaire, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, Cher, Clint Eastwood, Gordon Ramsey, Elton John, a frog lifting weights and Princess Diana all have in common? Eddie Sanderson, Minden resident, amazing creative photographer and pickleball player extraordinaire!
Born and raised in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland (on the border of Scotland and England), this self-proclaimed little country boy shared with the Minden Rotary Club that he got his photography start at the age of 17 when his father, the fire chief in his hometown, helped him get a job with a local photo agency for the summer. Sanderson has been all over the world shooting everything from landscapes to animals but is most famous for the amazing shots of celebrities. His pictures have been on thousands of magazine covers and in a number of books focused on individual stars. His eye for creative settings and effects made him quite popular in his adult hometown of Los Angeles. He has traveled the world with his cameras shooting everything from people to the highest hotel in the world (13,000 feet at base camp for Everest) to the deepest gold mine in the world (2.5 miles below the earth’s surface near Johannesburg).
Sanderson fell in love with Minden when he started driving up from Southern California to visit his best friend who owned Tahoe Blue Gallery Wine Bar in Incline. He moved up here 10 years ago. He keeps in touch with Joan Collins, now 92, who is godmother to his son. Eddie also has his own line of candles and is currently creating a series of abstract paintings using the acrylic pouring technique. Some of Eddie’s work was on display at the Arts and Crafts Fair on November 8/9 at the Douglas County Rec center in Gardnerville.
