Minden Rotary Club President Pat Garrahan and Award Winner Milly Seibel

The Giving Cup Golf Tournament was a big success, let's do the same for Oktoberfest!

Milly Seibel spoke to us with a recap of the Golf Tournament held on May 17.  This was a very successful event that netted $44,000.  A letter sent out to 2,000 previous donors in October resulted in a total of $8,200 donations of which $5,000 was earmarked to fund the Golf Tournament.  The letter also served the purpose of offering the opportunity to learn more about our club and give them an incentive to join the club.  In the six year history of this tournament we have made over $212,000 which averages $35,000 to $37,000 per year.  There were a total of 124 golfers this year, a new high.  We learned that the poker run was very popular with the golfers and it gets them into the 19th hole, we had a really good turnout at the luncheon.  The raffle was not as popular, except for the wheelbarrow full of booze and we raised almost $4,000.  Many people left after that was awarded and did not pick up other raffle prizes as it was a little confusing.  The silent auction was successful raising $8,220.  The suggestion was made that we don’t have the raffle except for the wheelbarrow and have a live auction instead. Milly suggested we pick MEFIYI as our charity for the next tournament as they provide volunteers, marketing, golfers and silent auction items.  Milly was awarded a Fantastic Fundraiser Award for her herculean efforts on this Golf Tournament.

Milly also spoke about our planned trip to see the Tahoe Knight Monsters on October 31.  The game starts at 3:00, gates open at 2:00, and we can get access at 1:30.  Minden Rotary will be the lead club.  Pricing is $28.30 for Section 110, $37.06 for Section 111 and $52.32 for Section 112 which are all right in the middle. Our club will get 20% of all ticket sales, raffle and concessions.  There will be a fun fest on the concourse to include Trick or Treating for the kids and other vendors.  There is a possibility our club will run a concession booth using Interactors along with adults.  There will be high-five tunnels for the kids and a post game photo on ice with the whole Rotary group in attendance.  There are also fan experiences available for purchase.  For $150 15 guests can sit on the Knight Monster’s bench during warmups.  For another $150 8 guests will be able to ride on the fan Zamboni during either the first or second intermission, and also for $150 two guests will have the opportunity to sit in between the player benches at ice lever during the first period of play.  We are looking into the opportunity for the Douglas High School choir to sing the National Anthem.  We will reach out to other clubs to attend.

Pat Garrahan spoke about Our club’s Oktoberfest coming up on September 19.  So far we have sponsors covering most of our expenses.  To make this event a success we will need to not be half-hearted and need many members to step up to fill volunteer slots, it won’t be a success if left to only 6-8 members.  Shifts are divided into half hours for all volunteer positions, however, volunteers can sign up for longer periods, please.  Food tickets will be sold for $5.00 and include a soft drink.  Beer will also be sold for $5.00.  Each person buying beer tickets will be given a wrist band and a hand stamp and will be allowed to buy only one beer at a time.  50-50 Raffle tickets will be announced every two hours so people don’t have to wait around until the end to find out if they win.  There will be games and fun for adults and kids as well as a band for listening and dancing.
