Pat Garrahan, Incoming Minden Rotary President 2026-27

MINDEN ROTARY GETS A HINT OF THE NEW LEADERSHIP STARTING JULY 1

Pat Garrahan spoke this past week about his goals for the club in the upcoming year. He especially wants to see Rotarian’s involved in groups, not just as individuals. Pat also wants to make sure our efforts to serve the community are fun and that every member is involved in at least one event. Playing on the centennial theme of 2026, Pat suggested that for 2026-2027 we have a goal of conducting at least 2027 service hours, which breaks down to about 57 hours for each active member. These hours would include attending our weekly meetings as well as our many other community service efforts. Mentioned was the possibility of bringing in District grants and working Tahoe Knight Monster games for donations and club recognition. There will be a Christmas Party in 2026.  Lastly, our Foundation is well funded with approximately $95k in the bank and the Club treasury is “okay”.

In 2009, after retiring from police investigative work, Pat served for 7 months in Afghanistan with the Marine Corps. He then spent 2 years training Marines prior to their deployments, and he returned to Afghanistan again in 2013 for another 7 months. Pat spoke about the importance of Memorial Day and it’s true meaning. That meaning should be one of remembrance of those who gave their lives for our country. It’s not simply a “holiday” as many would wrongly believe, but a sacred day to pay respects to those country-men and women who sacrificed all.

Pat prepared a slide show of 7 of his personal friends who perished while serving in the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in Helmand Province Afghanistan. Each of the 7 slides contained photos of these handsome young men, their date and place of death, name and rank. The personal story of these Marines and Corpsman was given with grace and reverence by Pat. Seeing their pictures and hearing the stories of how they died, of their families back home from a fellow Marine whose voice carried honest emotion gave us an insider’s perspective and appreciation of real sacrifice, which is the spirit of Memorial Day.

2026 MINDEN ROTARY GIVING CUP GOLF TOURNAMENT A HUGE SUCCESS!

Current Minden Rotary President Graham Rogney thanked all who participated in the golf tournament & acknowledged Milly for its success.

Milly gave a synopsis:
 There were 123 golfers who signed up.
 All who played really enjoyed themselves, they had fun.
 The poker run was especially successful because it brought approximately 99% of the golfers into the Supper Club.
 Weather-wise we dodged a bullet.
 The estimate for our net proceeds will be between $48 and $50 K, a substantial increase from past years.
 Sale of mulligans was very lucrative and contributed to those who won the tournament.
 The Interact Club folks did a commendable job.

Suggestions/improvements:
 It was suggested we sell raffle tickets at each hole that is manned next year.
 The barrel of booze was the most popular raffle item by far. Sadly, all the baskets of raffle items were left behind. Marsha Leeg took them and had to contact each winner, prompting the suggestion that in the future we announce the winners before the booze winner is announced.
 Coffee bar needs to be set up early next year – downstairs.
 The list of golfers should be made IN A LARGE FONT, so that those checking golfers in can read it without magnifying glasses.

Many amazing golfers!

Auction items were a hit!

Great Interact helpers!

100 Year Celebration

President Graham Rogney announced in July his 100-year Anniversary Goals:

  1. 100 PROJECTS - Anything we do to help in the community - including both Rotary projects and non-Rotary projects.  This doesn't have to be the entire club - it could be projects done by one or several.  In order to collect this information, we have created a LINK for you to record your community service!
  2. 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS RAISED - this will include our fundraisers as well as those we volunteer at for other community events.
  3. INCREASE MEMBERSHIP TO 100 - who do you know in the community that would make a good Rotarian?  Introduce them to the club!  There will be a social meeting each month to help all of us introduce potential new members to the club.
  4. EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR - Each club member contributes at least $25 to Rotary International during the 2025-2026 year.
ARE YOU IN CONTACT WITH A PAST MINDEN ROTARY MEMBER?  WE WOULD LOVE TO SEND THEM A SAVE THE DATE!  CLICK ON THE LINK HERE TO GIVE US NAME, EMAIL, MAILING ADDRESS AND PHONE INFORMATION FOR THE PAST MEMBER!

NEW MEMBER CRAFT TALK:  LORAL LANGEMEiER

Loral Langemeier gave her “Craft Talk” today. Having grown up in a big family farm in Nebraska, her goal was to leave the farm, play basketball in college and become a lawyer. However, those goals gave way to studying how people made money. While earning her degree, Loral found that being a personal trainer was lucrative.  From training to designing a fitness center was Loral's next move.  Soon after Loral accepted a contract working for Chevron designing 272 fitness centers for workers on off-shore rigs, all before the tender age of 26.  In 1996, she transitioned to working with the Rich Dad, Poor Dad team pursuing her dream of teaching people to make money, save on taxes and become Millionaires.    In 2005 McGraw Hill contracted Loral to write a 3-book series, The Millionaire Maker, which became New York Times Best Selling books for years. Shortly after these successes she became an international speaker on how to make Millionaires.  She was featured in the hit movie, The Secret, which airs to date on Netflix.   Her travels took her all around the world on speaking engagements until Covid raised its ugly head. Loral even became Dr. Phil’s money expert & had a show on CNBC.    Today, Loral is the CEO of Integrated Wealth Systems and employs 22 people at her office in Carson City and holds conferences regularly throughout the USA & Canada.
