The SMILE for Monday,  May 21, 2018 | Vol. 104 | No. 39
Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life trying to save. — Will Rogers

This Week, Monday, May 21

This week's speaker will Becky Lee Hinton from Overlook Village to tell us all about the newest retirement living option in Moline. Overlook Village is located on the site of the old Lutheran Hospital on 7th Street.

Last Week's Meeting
Last week's presenter, Mike Maloney with club president Jim Nelson.

Last week's Speaker was Mike Maloney with QC A4LE, The Association for Learning Environments. The Association for Learning Environments is a professional 501 (c)(3) non-profit association whose sole mission is improving the places where children learn.

The Association for Learning Environments believes that:

  • Facilities impact the learning, development and behavior of the facility user;
  • The planning process is essential for quality facilities;
  • Sharing and networking improves the planning process; and
  • There is a standard by which to measure.

Mike was very positive about the future of education in Moline, and the Quad Cities in general. He often praised Moline for building the much touted, and award winning Hamilton School -- a school that meets and exceeds the needs of education in the 21st Century.

The John Deere Classic begins on Thursday, July 12, through Sunday, July 15. Deni McCarter is the Moline Rotary John Deere Classic Chair and is asking for the Club’s support because a lot of organizations are interested in sponsoring the 18thhole. In order to keep this prime spot, we need volunteers. A lot of volunteers!  Specifically, a minimum of 36 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 18 on Saturday and Sunday. Sign up at the JDC website and use MolineRotary as the password.

Birdies pledge forms will be available soon. Your pledge will go to the Moline Rotary Foundation to help Moline Rotary continue to serve the community. It’s suggested to pledge a specific amount instead of a per birdie pledge. Bring your checkbook and make your pledge on Monday. v

Mark your calendar for the annual golf outing. This year’s event will be held at Oakwood Country Club on August 27.
