The SMILE for Monday, February 20, 2017 | Vol. 103 | No. 32

Editor: Jodie Corey Behrens   |  Webmaster: Jeff VanEchaute

"Always go with the choice that scares you most, because that’s the one that is going to require the most from you." — Caroline Myss
This Week
We will be joined by Dale Pierce from Blaze Restoration.

Last Week

Marcia Lintz, from The Center at Blackhawk Area Special Education District (BHASED), was our guest speakers. She told us how BHASED is raising funds for a new accessible playground. The Center is the educational center for approximately 150 students aged 3 to 22. The new playground will be completely accessible from the rubber padding to the wheelchair ramps and swings. The Quad Cities has a shortage of accessible playgounds. Once the school installs the equipment the playground will be open to the public after school hours. More about BHASED: Blackhawk Area Special Education District serves 13 area school districts. They provide the skills and confidence students with disabilities need. The students have access to vision and hearing screenings, vocational skills, education, and socialization.

News You Can Use

- We said goodbye to our most recent group of Student Rotarians. Be on the lookout for a new group of students next week.

Tenfu began selling raffle tickets for his end of year trip to the East Coast with Inbound Exchange Students throughout the district. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.00. The winner of the raffle will get a traditional Japanese dinner for 4 prepared by Tenfu.

Kimberly Crane introduced the Gift Tree Basket. Tickets are on sale for $10 each or 3 for $20.00. Rotarians are encouraged to sell tickets. The Rotarian selling the most tickets will win either a quarter worth of paid dues or equal value towards the Paul Harris Foundation.

We had a mystery guest last week there to promote the Murder Mystery Dinner on April 8, 2017. The dinner will be at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe at 5 PM. Tickets are $50 a person before February 27th and $60 a person thereafter. Space is limited to 150 guests. Buy your tickets now!

Smile a While

Here are a few corny one liners:

  • What did one ocean say to the other ocean? Nothing, they just waved.
  • For Sale: Parachute. Only used once, never opened.
  • I just let my mind wander, and it didn’t come back.
  • Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.
  • When tempted to fight fire with fire, remember that the Fire Department usually uses water.
The Four-Way Test: Of the things we think, say, or do: Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build Good Will and Better Friendships? Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?
