This Monday we will welcome Heidi Huiskamp Collins from Huiskamp Collins Educational Planning.

Heidi underwent extensive study and sat for 3 exams to earn her Certified College Planning Specialist (CCPS) designation which positions her as an expert in college planning strategies by the National Institute of Certified College Planners (NICCP). She is the only financial advisor in the state of Iowa to hold this credential and only one of three in the state of Illinois, with the other two residing in the Chicagoland area and the St. Louis metropolitan area, respectively. Some college planning services focus on positioning your student to get accepted to a particular school. Heidi can help your child identify strengths, interests, courses of study, and colleges that match those parameters; navigate the confusing financial aid process; analyze and enable you to get the “most bang for your buck” from your student’s top school choices; and, most importantly, how to pay for it all.

Last Monday's Speaker

Last Monday we welcomed Brian Rothenberger from the Quad City Storm minor league hockey team.

After spending three years in network television Brian joined the Storm at the beginning of the inaugural season. A native Floridian and graduate of the University of South Florida, Brian comes to the Quad Cities by way of Bismarck, North Dakota where he worked as a live event broadcaster for the BEK Sports Network. As a former player and avid fan of the game of hockey, Brian is thrilled to be able to promote and grow the game as a member of the Storm!

Brian gave us lots of information about the team and the league they play in.

The 2022-2023 Quad City Storm hockey season begins on home ice Friday October 21st, 2022 against the defending SPHL champion Peoria Rivermen. The Storm hits the road the following morning to play the rival Rivermen in Peoria before traveling to Vermillion County the following weekend for a pair of road contests.

The 2022-2023 Storm schedule consists of 28 home game dates, starting with opening night October 21st and concluding Saturday April 8th versus the Huntsville Havoc. Storm fans will enjoy a home slate of twelve Friday games, nine Saturday games, three Sunday games and four Thursday games. Standard start times for home games are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:10 PM, Sundays at 2:10 PM and Thursdays at 6:10 PM. A record eight different opponents will face off against the Storm at the TaxSlayer Center this season including the Huntsville Havoc, Knoxville Ice Bears, Roanoke Railyard Dawgs, Vermillion County Bobcats,Evansville Thunderbolts, Pensacola Ice Flyers, Fayetteville Marksmen and Peoria Rivermen.

This year the team will try a new event, busing in elementary students from the area to watch a day game. They are looking forward to hosting a whole new group of potential future fans!

The Quad City Storm are locally owned by John Dawson who grew up in Rock Island and currently lives in East Moline.

Membership Exercise

Paul Plagenz led the club in an exercise to pick our brains on how to help the membership committee recruit new members. Paul will present the findings at a later meeting. Stay tuned!

Batter Up, Boys and Girls!

We need your bats and your arms for the new Rotary/WIU Co-Ed Softball team: the Moline Rotary Leathernecks!

We have registered the Moline Rotary Leathernecks for the Adult Co-ED Fall Softball League, and will have to submit a roster at the League Manager's meeting on August 15th. Recall that the games are played on Sundays, starting on August 21st, and the season consists of six weeks of double-headers. Our team must field an equal number of male and female players. (10 on the field). Contact Jim Rabchuk for details!

Picnic in the Park is back! We will have our regular meeting at the Prospect Park Pavilion on August 15th. Start gathering items for the traditional Door Prize Drawings!

City of Moline's 150th Birthday Celebration We have the opportunity to volunteer as a club to staff the Beer Tent! All TIPS will go to our own Moline Rotary Foundation. More information to come, but mark your calendars for this once in a lifetime event!
