Last week’s meeting was fun and interesting as longtime Rotarian Jerry Butts regaled us with stories from his early years as a Moline Rotarian. Jerry’s stories reminded us of the rich history of our Club and the strong commitment to service and community that we value as Rotarians.

 

Highlights included:

- After 60 years a Moline Rotarian, this was his first Classification Talk!

- Grew up in Decatur, IL

- Scholarship to Valparaiso

- Volunteered for the Korean War. Served in Alaska in the Army Intelligence.

- Started work at Kemper Insurance for $235/month.

- Joined Oakleaf Insurance in Moline in 1961.

- Joined Rotary in 1962

- President of Rotary in 1979.

- Helped found the Downtown Moline Association, and had a major role in raising the money for, and planning what is now Moline's amazing civic developments along the river.

 

Our Club members range in age from young professionals to cherished longstanding members all of whom help us to better serve our community and build new friendships. Thank you, Jerry, for inspiring us with your incredible years of service to the City of Moline, and Moline Rotary Club.
