The SMILE for Monday December 7,  2020

Thoughts from President Dougal's remarks at the beginning of the meeting last week: As Rotarians we've seen many great acts of kindness and giving in our own communities and throughout the world. We don't have to look far to see what the financial impact of the virus has been on families. Times are tough for many families and businesses in the Quad Cities right now. We Rotarians can make a difference, however big or small. Clean out your closet, put extra funds into the collection basket, find a charitable cause to give to, look to small businesses for purchases. Whatever you can do, please do it.

News You Can Use

From the Board
The Board met on Monday and decided to continue virtual meetings until further notice. The current status of the pandemic doesn’t allow for in-person meetings.

Guests and Visiting Rotarians
Dr. Jackie Jiang was a guest on Monday. Dr. Jiang is a psychologist with offices in Moline. Pieter Hanson introduced her to Moline Rotary, and she is considering membership.

Downtown Moline Update:
Moline Rotarian Geoff Manis reported on the downtown Moline activities. In lieu of a holiday hop or the lighting of the commons this year, a downtown scavenger hunt has begun. Through a generous gift of $5,000 by MidAmerican Energy, Geoff purchased $50 gift cards to downtown businesses and has been hiding them throughout the downtown, helping to bring in tourism and hopefully some additional downtown shopping. Look to the Facebook accounts of Moline Centre, Lighting on the Commons for additional details along the Moline Centre Instagram account on the weekly hunt. Plus, don't forget to head downtown during the evenings to view a dazzling light display in the plaza.

Sergeant at Arms:
The virtual Queen of Hearts raffle will be held again today. The Queen of Hearts hasn't selected, the money rolls over to next week. You can participate by emailing Laura at Laura.Davis@midlanddavis.com for tickets. Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5. You can pay Laura for your tickets via Venmo at @Laura-Davis-136.
