Happy Monday Moline Rotarians! “Success is to wake up each morning and consciously decide that today will be the best day of your life.” Ken Poirot

This Week

Today we have a change in our speaker schedule. Clair Peterson with the John Deere Classic will visit us next week. Today we welcome fellow Rotarian, Vicky Miller to the podium.

The Defense Industry Adjustment Program is a program from the Office of Economic Adjustment from the DoD.  The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce is a sub award recipient of an OEA grant from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

OEA helps local communities adapt to DoD program changes, expansions, and cutbacks and the Quad Cities Region is part of the area that surrounds our military installation of the Rock Island Arsenal and our defense industry region has experienced great impacts from budget cuts, military spend, drawdowns and sequestration. The DIA Program helps defense and manufacturing industries diversify their markets, prepare for industry changes and position defense and manufacturing businesses for future growth. The DIA program at the Quad Cities Chamber funds the activities that support our defense and manufacturing businesses here in the QC 10 county region with the QC Innovation Manufacturing Hub.

Vicky Miller is the Director for the Defense Industry Economic Diversification Program Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce. We welcome her presentation today.

Last Week

Last week we heard from our 2016-2017 Moline Rotary President as he reflected on his year. Here are a few brief comments from our President following last Monday's meeting:

As was shared last week with the club we had a very successful year. With over 51 events we funded or participated in, $41K in money raised or shared to support causes and over $15K raised for the foundation this was quite a year.

I wanted to take one last moment and tell each of you how appreciative I am of your time, treasure and talent towards Moline Rotary. Being your President has been a humbling honor I will not forget. Our club is being handed off to an amazing Board of Directors and is in great financial shape. In general we are in a great place and it is because of all of you and your love for this organization.

I look forward to joining all of you at the tables and catching up. I cannot thank you all enough for your support.

Thank you,

Tim

Also last week, Deni McCarter was congratulated and recognized for her Paul Harris contribution. Thank you for supporting the Paul Harris foundation!

News You Can Use

Birdies for Charity: This year funds from our Birdies donations will go to the Community Needs Committee.

Please consider a donation. All funds will be distributed by our Community Needs Committee for projects such as literacy, youth activities, and the support of community events. Thank you for supporting the Moline Rotary Club Foundation!

Birdies pledge forms will be on the tables for a few more weeks.

Save the dates: July 10-16, 2017. The Moline Rotary Club has the honor of marshaling the 18th hole of the Classic again this year. If you are able to volunteer, please let us know. Sign up sheets will be on the tables until we get a full slate of volunteers.

More news to follow today's meeting. See you at Noon!
