Week of Sept 2, 2024
This week, we have an exciting and innovative approach to helping kids and really anyone who is dealing with attention deficit or anxiety in classrooms or closed environments.
Ernie Rodriguez, our speaker and newest eClub member, has found a simple way to bring nature into the classroom or other confined high pressure, high anxiety space such as an ER, with large ceiling photographic murals of trees and outdoor nature.. Based on 40 plus years of empirical science developed at the University of Michigan, the practical use of nature imagery in the classroom is having remarkable effects on kids who are anxious or hyper - finding calm and reassurance by connecting with trees and nature.
You're sure to find Ernie’s presentation and story fascinating and gratifying that such a simple solution has such dramatic and positive results to increasing mental health problems and frustrations in today’s high-pressure classrooms.

Thank you for your interest in the recent webinar “ShelterBox USA  All-Hands Rotary Roundup.” We hope you enjoyed the session. If you cannot attend or want to share the webinar with others, here is the link to the recording.  https://youtu.be/6GeR6-_XAR8. For those who marked “interested” in volunteering, hosting a fundraiser, or receiving our newsletters, we will contact you in a separate email soon.

Our next online event is “An Evening to Experience ShelterBox” on November 14th. Please join us for an exclusive hour where we’ll embark on a virtual journey to the core of our global relief efforts. The evening is more than an event; it’s a celebration of the hope and renewal you’ve helped bring to those in need. You’ll hear powerful stories of resilience and recovery, which are a testament to the profound impact of your contributions. Witness how your support is transforming lives. Register here https://www.shelterboxusa.org/event-webinars/virtual/

Are you looking for something a bit different for a future club program? Our Virtual ShelterBox Deployment Experience puts the critical decisions we face in the field to your weekly club meeting. Your members will work through assessments and logistics to shelter displaced families in a fictitious disaster response. Reach out to me, and I’ll be happy to schedule it. (Facilitated remotely via Zoom, allow for a 30-to-40-minute group activity).

  • Coffee With a Rotarian: The September CWR email has been sent. Be sure to watch your inbox for this month's matches. Please remember to reach out to your match and set a time for you to chat. CWR is a great way to learn something new about your fellow eClub members and build fellowship in our far-flung club. Please let President Mike know if you did not receive the CWR email.
  • Club Service: Remember, being a Rotarian means more than just being a member; it means you are willing to do Rotary work. Please volunteer! If you are interested in working on a club committee (Membership, Club Service, Programs, Rotary Foundation, Youth Service, Mini-Grants, Budget & Finance), please let President  Mike know ASAP!
  • TRF & Polio Plus: The Rotary Foundation emphasizes Polio Eradication worldwide. In addition to your regular contribution to TRF, you can designate some or all of it for Polio Plus. You can donate by setting up a one-time or recurring payment to a credit or debit card here: https://my.rotary.org/en/rotary-direct.
  • TRF and EREY - There’s still time to consider your gift to Rotary for the 2024-2025 TRF Fund and Polio Plus year. There are several ways to give: outright payment (Check or Credit Card), monthly payments billed to your credit card, allocation to several funds, etc. Our TRF Chair, Phil Dean, emailed your pledge a while back. Have you made your pledge? Our Club hopes to be designated as an “Every Year, Every Rotarian” club in District 5170. Your gift matters, whether small or large (that is up to you - we will never tell you how much to give). A portion of our annual fund-giving will be returned to us for our DDF usage.

  • Thought of the Week: - 9 Sept 2024 -

“This is a changing world; we must be prepared to change with it. The story of Rotary will have to be written again and again.”

  • HAPPY DOLLARS: Do Good by Sharing Something Good. Each week, we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know our fellow members and guests while giving back to a good cause. Happy Dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life, whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little and put a bit into a karma jar. The money donated through Happy Dollars is put to charitable use. Send Happy Dollars!
We would love to hear from you about your Rotary/Service/Fellowship news. Please send photos and a brief article telling us about your Rotary activities.
