The Lucky Ducky Race and Community Celebration
was back on August 27, 2023!
On Sunday, August 27th from 1:00 - 3:30 pm at Riverside Park, creatively decorated ducks once again raced down the Arkansas River to cheering spectators who came to celebrate the Salida community. And we have some winners:

As a reminder, all nine of the above winning sponsors will have a scholarship granted in the name of their choice during the next academic year - 1st place winners: $2,000 scholarships; 2nd place winners: $1,500 scholarships; and 3rd place winners: $1,000 scholarships.

Several non-profits were present with information about their organizations. As they did last year, the Salida Circus wowed us with their amazing talents. And the kids had several fun activities to enjoy: their own Mini-Duck race, painting a rock, and playing Ducky Toss and Ring Toss games.
We held 7 Public Fun Races where people could buy a ticket for $5 (or $5.25 for a credit card sale) to sponsor a duck in a race made up of 10 ducks. We distributed the ticket money back out so that the ticket holder of the winning duck received $25 cash, and the ticket holder of the last duck also received $25 cash. They races were so much fun with the crowd invested in the races!
The public viewed and voted on their favorite of the Platinum sponsored ducks that were uniquely decorated by their sponsors. The Winner of the "Best Decorated Platinum Duck" was Wood's Distillery's "Duck Festooned with Gems and Shells". This year they also checked out and voted on the Gold ducks decorated by youth at the Boys & Girls Clubs in Salida and Buena Vista. The kids had a blast decorating the ducks, and they were truly creative! The Winner of the "Best Decorated Gold Duck" was Irene Alvarez's "Burger Shack Duck", sponsored by HHSB Family Fund.
