July 24, 2013 - Port of Olympia Commission Vice President Bill McGregor presented the strategic plan for 2013-2015 and discussed projects underway. One project is dredging, cleaning up, and maintaining water depths in the lower Budd Inlet. The port is actively working to increase cargo volume. Over the next 12 years, projects will be judged according to values adopted in the strategic plan such as balancing economic development, earnings, and the environment.

Environmental Programs Director Alex Smith discussed the restoration of Mission Creek at Priest Point Park. For centuries Mission Creek was a salmon run. About 70 years ago, it was paved over as a road. The Port of Olympia, City of Olympia, South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group, Squaxin Island Tribe, Salmon Recovery Funding Board, and other agencies are working together to restore Mission Creek to its natural state.
