Scott Arthur, Facility Manager of the Sterile Insect Release Program (SIR) gave a fascinating presentation on Thursday. This is an area-wide and environmentally friendly approach to managing the codling moth, one of the BC tree fruit industry's most damaging and costly pests. The SIR Program operates in the fruit growing areas of the Okanagan, Similkameen and Shuswap Valley. 252,000,000 sterile moths are released each growing season to protect apple and pear fruit. This was the last luncheon to be held at the Golf Club this year - next week is an evening meeting (Past Presidents Dinner) at the Passa Tempo restaurant and the future lunches will also be there. 12 members and 3 guests attended - Vaughn drew the ticket but not the joker. The picture is of Scott - turn your laptop on its side!
