The Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club was delighted that Jayden Harrington had made a decision recently to seek membership with the club, with the encouragement from friend and club member Wes Forgione.  On December 09th, 2020, Club Membership Chair Moya Webb inducted Jayden into the club via the club’s regular zoom meeting.  Jayden is the 12th member to have been inducted into the club during 2020 and the fourth since the beginning of the 2020-21 Rotary Year.

Why would you want to join Rotary is a question frequently asked of individuals seeking membership in Rotary?  Jayden’s response to the question was “I am interested in helping the community I was born and raised in, but I know that my best way to be effective in doing so is to do it through a structured club such as Rotary.” This is certainly true for most of us who use Rotary as a means to provide humanitarian service within our community and throughout the world.

Born and raised in Kelowna, Jayden’s focus, hard work and commitment working in a variety of entry level jobs starting in 2012, including full time manager at McDonalds and front house responsibilities at Earls on Top, and taking on banquet shifts at the Capri Hotel, provided him with the financial means to study at Okanagan College.

In 2018, Jayden commenced his career in the financial field working as a teller at TD Bank while still studying at Okanagan College, which led to a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Finance Specialty in 2019.  Also in 2019, he began working as a Financial Advisor which enabled him to advance to his current position as a Mortgage Specialist with TD Bank in 2020.

Jayden certainly recognizes that he has an obligation to help those in need.  While it has only been five years since he graduated with a grade 12 from Rutland Senior Secondary School, and even though he has been working and studying for his degree, he has already been volunteering with the foodbank, participating in clothing and bottle drives, and fundraising for desperate children without food within the community.

While studying, working and volunteering have taken a great deal of his time, Jayden has always dedicated time to be with his wife and three young children.  Once in a while he does find a bit of time to pursue some of his personal interests such as investing, reading novels, snowboarding, running, and hiking.
