Mike DeVies became the first member to be inducted and welcomed into the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise in the new Rotary year, 2017-18.  Mike was joined by his wife Michelle for the induction which took place on August 04th

While Mike had been a member of the Rotary Club of Kelowna Morningside since April of 2015, he felt that the Sunrise Rotary Club better reflected his personality and his aspirations.  Over the past five weeks, Mike has joined the Sunrise Rotary club at their weekly meetings to confirm his feelings.  As a person who is very interested and skilled in process and organization, Mike will surely be a great asset to the club.

Mike was born in South Africa and after serving five years in the army there, he left for a life in the United Kingdom where he worked on North Sea oil rigs, as a police officer, and as a vice-principal of the South Tyneside College.  During his years in the UK, Mike attained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Sunderland University Business School in England.

In November of 2014, Mike and Michelle moved from the United Kingdom directly to Kelowna.  As an internationally qualified “facilitator,” Mike accepted a position as business facilitator with the Okanagan Veterinary Hospital Group in Kelowna, with the responsibility of looking after six veterinary hospitals both in Canada and the United States. The hospital is a well-established, full-service small veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.

When not at work, Mike spends time with ‘Spider Pig’ – the world’s tubbiest cat, and dogs, Yogi and Fizz. Apparently, he also likes to be out and about in the beautiful Okanagan countryside as long as he does not have to walk up anything to get there.
