Out-going President Andy Griffin expressed praise for the work of the Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club during the 2018 Installation Dinner and Program held on the 23rd of June; and in particular recognized Rotarians and others who provided exceptional leadership service throughout the 2017-18 Rotary Year.
 
Rotarian of the Year
 
Heidi Miller was awarded the prestigious “Rotarian of the Year” Award for her outstanding support for the president and club as the Program Committee Director which provided effective programs that left the club Rotarians energized, motivated and informed; and which provided for well-organized regular weekly meetings.
 
 
Dale Frandsen Award
 
Chris Murphy received the second major award, the “Dale Frandsen Award,” which is presented to a member of the club who exemplifies the spirit of dedication, friendship, optimism, and integrity; the core values of a true Rotarian. These characteristics were evident as Chris provided leadership for the club’s successful fundraising campaign throughout the year.
 
“Friendship and Fellowship” Award
 
Al Strachan was recognized with the PDG Vern’s Special Award for “Friendship and Fellowship,”  a certificate honouring and expressing deep appreciation for “Making a Difference” by promoting friendship and fellowship within the club through his leadership as a member of the Care and Concerns Committee and for making all club Rotarians feel valued and included.
 
 
“Changemaker” Award
 
Heidi Miller also received the 2017-18 “Changemaker” Award, an award started in the current Rotary year at the request of District 5060 Governor Bill Jenkins,  to recognize a club Rotarian who through his/her efforts and leadership helped to bring about significant change within the club to enable the club to be more effective in serving its members.  Heidi’s guidance in bringing about procedural changes for the club’s meetings and in providing effective overall coordination of its meetings resulted in effective change within the club.
Presidential Citations
 
Four Rotarians were each presented with the President’s Citation.  Ken Ottoson was recognized for his regular preparation of the weekly regular meeting environment with the usual Rotary paraphernalia. Brian Wrightson received the Citation for his determination and persistence and unfailing diplomacy in chairing the Kelowna RibFest in 2016, and then again in 2017.  Jane Fletcher was praised for her weekly emailed “The Friday Report” which provides the club members with details of upcoming speakers, highlights of the program, and the various required duties of the club members.  Brian Fennell received the fourth Citation for being the lead for the Okanagan Sun Football Club Beverage Service which involved communicating with the Football club and organizing the club volunteers for all of the home football games, along with coordinating the beverage service for the 2017 Nitro Circus.

Appreciation Certificates
 
Finally, the directors of the club for 2017-18 were received recognition for club leadership with an Appreciation Certificate.This included club members Max Mosley and Brian Wrightson (Membership), Jane Fletcher (Public Relations), Bob Fortier (Foundation), Doreen Welsh (Fellowship), Chris Murphy (Fundraising), Heidi Miller (Club Service), Stu Lang and Martha Kennedy ( New Generations) and Rene Bernard (International Service).
