Each year, the president of the past Rotary year selects on their merit two outstanding club leaders who practice exceptional ‘Service-Above-Self on a regular basis throughout the Rotary year for two of the club’s top awards.

For the 2020-21 Rotary year, Stu Lang was the recipient of the Rotarian of the Year Award; while Susan McIntyre was presented with the Dale Frandsen Award.

The “Rotarian of the Year” Award is presented each year to a club Rotarian who clearly stands out in demonstrating “Service Above Self,” and principled commitment to the Four-Way Test.  The Rotarian of the Year is an outstanding club member who has made significant contributions to the mission and operation of the club, and a Rotarian who has provided exceptional service to one or more avenues of Community or International Service.

When presenting the award to Stuart who joined the club in 2016, out-going president Norm LeCavalier stated that Stu “very quickly began to get engaged with various projects, joined several committees and after that there was no stopping him.” This past Rotary year, Stuart started the Club Walking group which was very well received by the club members, assisted the International Service Committee and participated in District 5060 presentations with the club’s HIP Program Committee.  His most recent creative project has involved the creation of the concept for the club’s Seasonal Calendar which will become one of the club’s major fundraisers in the foreseeable future!

The Dale Frandsen Award is presented to a member of the club who exemplifies the spirit of dedication, friendship, optimism, and integrity; the core values of a true Rotarian. The Award was started in 2003-04 named in honour of past Rotarian Dale Frandsen.  This is the 18th year that the Award has been presented to a club Rotarian by Linda Frandsen based on the criteria and on behalf of the club president.

In declaring the recipient of the award, president Norm expressed that “It is an honour for me to present this year’s worthy recipient to Susan McIntyre,” and while doing so Norm stated that “Susan has been an outstanding contributor to our club this year who has successfully led the review and amendments of the club bylaws, has provided leadership for the club’s silent auction fundraiser ($8900), and has been an integral part of the leadership team with her marketing skills on the club’s new initiative, the  “Seasonal calendar” fundraiser.”  Norm shared that Susan always finds time to help and provide the club’s new comers with guidance and direction.
