Sandy Rehaume just can’t get enough of Rotary and in particular the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise. After two other experiences as a Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise member, first from 2011-13 and then from 2015-16, Sandy was inducted into the club again on February 08th, 2019.  Her earlier two experiences with the Sunrise club unfortunately came to a halt as her working life had necessitated her to step aside from Rotary.  The club is pleased to have Sandy, a previously active Rotarian, back in the fold.

Sandy is currently a restoration contractor working with ServiceMASTER Restore since September of 2017.  She shares that her post-secondary education which included Purchasing Management at Simon Fraser University and Construction Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology prepared her for management in a number of work places. After leaving the Social Services sector, she moved into the Products Distribution Division of the Provincial Government, where she was provided training which resulted in Certification in Purchasing Management.  As time passed, Sandy became more interested in contracts, finances and negotiations.

Later, on a ‘whim,’ Sandy applied for a position in the private sector and got hired immediately.  She points out that this was where she discovered restoration, a job where she was able to show up in a person’s life and to then assist them through the process of recovering from a variety of household disasters.  “I love this career - it has so many moving parts, every day is different and I am learning every day,” states Sandy.

While Sandy has taken time for herself by getting involved in arts and crafts, beekeeping, kayaking in the summer and curling during the winter, she still has made a point of volunteering as a way to make a difference for others.  In past years, she has volunteered with the Race Event Volunteers of Greater Vancouver at large events such as the Molson Indy, Fireworks, Santa Claus Parade, Vancouver Sun Run and the CIBC Run for the Cure.  She was a member of the BC LIONS “CAT” team.   She volunteered for many years at the Variety Club Telethon with the Teamsters.  She coached baseball and cheerleading.     She volunteered as the camp cook at RSR camps and has been involved with local volunteer organizations since relocating to Kelowna, including serving as a member- at- large with the ANAF Ladies Auxiliary.  Sandy also provided leadership as a Scout Leader, served on several boards of directors serving children’s athletic organizations, and most recently as the President of the Lake Okanagan Insurance Society.

Rotary has been a part of life for Sandy, not just in Kelowna, but elsewhere.  In the past, she also was a member of the Rotary Club of Pemberton where she served as their secretary and attended two Leadership workshops.

Sandy points out that she joined Rotary to meet people, to get involved in the humanitarian work of the club and to have fun.  “I have been a friend of, and a part of Kelowna Sunrise Rotary in the past,” expressed Sandy; “and it is my desire to experience Rotary through a group of Rotarians who have high energy, are socially progressive and are a lot of fun.”
