The Adaptive Sailing Association of Kelowna was the recipient of a donation of $4000 from the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise with the funds designated for the purchase new sails, batteries and motors for their fleet of sailboats.  Club member Norm LeCavalier, on behalf of the Club, presented the Association a check for $4000 at the regular meeting of the Club on April 12th, 2019.  Sheri-Lee Parsons, the Director of Operations for the Association, accepted the donation.

The Adaptive Sailing Association of BC, Okanagan Branch, is a non-profit organization that started the sailing program in 1993.  The program introduces people with physical and cognitive challenges with the opportunity to sail on beautiful Okanagan Lake from the Kelowna Yacht Club and to feel safe, secure, and one-with-the-water in their specially designed Martin sailboats. They learn to skipper themselves, or take a leisurely ride around Okanagan Lake piloted by a qualified expert sailor.  The program provides sixteen sailboats for their sailors which are used from the beginning of May into September of each year.

Their programs include sailing simply for fun, sailing to learn to sail by Sail Canada standards, and for the more adventurous they even offer the opportunity to learn to race.
