Art Deco Festival - Soup Kitchen

Rotary held a ‘soup kitchen’ as part of the Art Deco Festival reminding us that the world was very different in the 1920’s.  On what can only be described as a cold winters’ day patrons were able to enjoy some food from the past that not only warmed but also filled their bellies.

On the menu Dan’s corn chowder, Annetta’s pumpkin soup, Brian’s mock rabbit stew (wanna-be rabbit aka chicken) and good old fashioned American style hot dogs (with or without raw onion!).

We got to use the Rotary Rotunda for the event which proved to be a suitable venue.  Decked out with the amazing sign (thanks Dan) and the photos etc it looked amazing.

Thanks all for helping out and assisting in whatever way/s not only on the day but also in the weeks leading up to the event and a special vote of thanks to Brian.  Thank you very much to Jan for the use of her kitchen and for chopping up lots of veggie;  to Annette for the pumpkin soup, which sold out and also Tracey and the Leeton Cadets who once again rolled up their sleeves and helped out on the day.

The day proved to be beneficial and rewarding in many ways as we enjoyed fellowship and brought Rotary back into the eyes of the public.  Boosted our coffers that we may distribute and community collaboration with various organisations.  Any food left over at the end of the day was donated via the Op Shop to assist some fellow human beings with a decent feed which was the ultimate aim of the "Soup Kitchens of the Depression Era".

  Missing In Action

Back to our normal stomping ground this week, missing in action was not only our guest speaker (we are still saying it ‘COVID stricks again’) but also our newly elected President Graeme.  Acting President Bruer did an outstanding job under the circumstances with some Rotarians being a little more interested in catching up than listening.  He persisted and soon received their undivided attention.

Social Night at the Pub

Last week with our normal venue closed and our newly elected President away, not to mention school holidays, Rotarians enjoyed a social evening at the Wade Hotel.  Riddle Answer: Promises

  Whats for Dinner?

Sweet and sour pork and rice were on the menu this week and for dessert we enjoyed Italian style donuts and ice cream.  As is apparent by the photo the bulletin editor was too busy enjoying their dessert and forgot to take a photo before digging in.  Both dishes proved to be good choices thanks Chef Matt.

Sergeant Matt

Sergeant Matt attempting to get every member present to cope a fine thanks to yours truly for not providing ‘goss for Which Rotarian’.  Rotarians wanted to ensure that yours truly also put in which resulted in some good old fashioned fun.
