2022 Club Annual General Meeting

Rotary Club of Leeton Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Thursday 8 December 2022. The minutes of the 2021 AGM held on25 November 2021 were accepted.

For the year commencing 1 July 2023 elected Officers and Directors are:

The Club received, considered and accepted the Financial Statements for the Rotary Club Inc For the year ended 30 June 2022 which were required to be submitted to the members.

The Club resolved to offer the Auditor Bob Parsons a vote of thanks for auditing the books for 2021-22.

Salim Choudhury - Moments

Our newest member Salim Choudhury gave us a look into his life from humble beginnings in Bangladesh to Australia. Salim is currently employed by Murrumbidgee Irrigation as a Senior Design/Planning Engineer. His wife Moushumi Reza is a Family Day Carer. They married while Moushumi was still at University. Together they are the proud parents to three beautiful daughters Aliza, Amani and Inayah; two sons-in-law Hasib and Sabeeh. This year they became grandparents for the first time to Iyah, with grandchild number two due early 2023.

Oh, did I mention they also have five, yes 5 cats, Jaffa, Lexi, Pablo, Leo and Quatro.

Salim when speaking about the moments that have made up his life to date said, “every stage of my life had a moment which changed direction of life”.

Salim the son of a doctor spent the first eight years of his life in Kaptai in Bangladesh before moving to Bengazi (Libiya) for the next three years. His school years (1974-80) were spent at BAF Shaheen School before attending Dhaka College (1980-82).

From 1983-87 Salim attended IIT Bombay University (India), initially as a medical student before switching to engineering.

February 1992 saw Salim and Moushumi moved to Sydney under the skilled migrant program. Salim continued studying at the University of Sydney. He actually visited Leeton three times (always for water related reasons) before the families move here in 1999 when Salim commenced working for Murrumbidgee Irrigation. The family has moved twice in Leeton before moving for the third and final time when they built their own home.

In Salim’s own words “people say “something in the water”” I say “fate”. Enjoying the water and water works!!!!

Light Up Leeton – BBQ & Hams

Another year and another Light Up Leeton done and dusted. The BBQ and ham chocolate wheel together with the Leeton Farmers Market BBQ from Saturday all added up to a very successful weekend. Thanks everyone who assisted in any way.

Thanks to the Gatt’s

On the 8^th December we farewelled The Hungry Fox and the Gatt’s as our weekly hosts. We have shared many great meals, a few drinks, games and laughter over the years. We can not thank the Gatt’s enough for all they did for us, going over and above what was expected. Although we will miss you Matt, Manuela and Maria and you smiling faces and the kids as they popped in and out. On the flip side Matt this now opens the door for you to officially join our gatherings as a true blue member.

Christmas Get-together

Our final gathering for the year was for a Christmas party. What a great night, thanks to all who assisted to make this night so special. An extra special thank you to our most gracious hosts Peter and Erin Draper, who not only opened their home to us but also their hearts. We all enjoyed some great food, a few drinks, some laughs, impressive venue and each other’s company. We could not have asked for anything more. Oh and the decorations, well they are out of this world.
