Maryann Iannelli – Localise You

Some facts about Maryann:

Was a short-term Rotary Exchange Student to Austin, Texas in 2001 where she met many Rotarians.
Did a Diploma in Business Management and Advanced Diploma in Business Marketing.
Worked for Southern Cross Television.
Did a B Commerce at the University of Canberra.
Enjoyed travel to Europe on a Contiki from London (a good way to meet new people) and spent 2 months in Italy.
Worked in marketing for TV then For Auto Sports in Melbourne
While she loved Melbourne, she worked long hours and felt isolated. She needed something more connected.
Moved back to Leeton to work in the family business (Sam’s Tile and Light Centre) on marketing and promotions.
She then joined the Leeton Business Chamber.
She is now married with 2 children.

Maryann was a formation member of the Leeton Health Services Action Committee. Since working with the hospital, she came to realise that the hospital finds it difficult to attract and retain staff – partly because the staff find it difficult to assimilate into the town. Other businesses in town have the same problem. ‘We need skilled professionals in our shire and region. From healthcare professionals, educators, corporate management, and manufacturing expertise.’

Attracting and retaining skilled professionals to regional areas is high on the agenda for many employers and government services.
Social integration & networking is one of the top 5 challenges of relocating to regional areas.

This is the force behind ‘Localise You’. The goal is to showcase, educate, highlight our lifestyle and assist with social integration by:

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE LOCAL LIFESTYLE
A CONNECTION TO THE COMMUNITY
AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE SOCIAL CONTACTS
SHOWCASE OUR REGION

‘Localise you is an event services designed to showcase the community lifestyle and provide opportunities to increase social networks. We want newcomers to feel welcome to our community, find a sense of familiarity and belonging in their new community.’

Events Planned are:

In Maranne’s words: ‘Through collaboration with local government, various community groups, businesses, and sporting clubs, we aim to empower new residents with a comprehensive understanding of who we are as a community and what we have to offer to live, work and play. I speak to you all here tonight as influential members of our community. I encourage you all to consider the opportunities available for your own businesses, community groups and sporting clubs you are affiliated with. Every network helps us grow.’

A: There are 2 solutions to this puzzle. Firstly, you can move the middle horizontal matchstick in the 6 to make it a zero (0+4=4). The second answer is to take the horizontal match off the addition sign and use it to make the 6 into an 8 (8-4=4).

Alan started his session with a quote from times past ‘I’m here to make money not friends’ and then went on to prove the point. Barely a member missed out on the Sergeant’s wrath. But the editor has decided that, on this occasion, what goes on in the room should stay there.

An old man went to the Doctor complaining that his wife could barely hear. The Doctor suggested a test to find out the extent of the problem. “Stand far behind her and ask her a question, and then slowly move up and see how far away you are when she first responds.”

The old man excited to finally be working on a solution for the problem, runs home and sees his wife preparing supper.” Honey” the man asks standing around 6 metres away “what’s for supper?”

After receiving no response he tried it again 4 metres away, and again no response. Then again at 3 metres away and again no response. Finally, he was only one metre away “honey what’s for supper?”

She replies “For the fourth time it’s lasagna!
