After attending PETS recently President Elect Graeme gave us a glimpse into what he would like to see happen during his year. As this will be his 3rd Presidency he believes Rotary needs to change to ensure it does not become another ‘Kodak’. He requested his fellow Rotarians to “help him to better serve us and the community”.
Graeme asked the question, “can you think of an organisation you have been part of, one where there is an unwritten rule that almost everyone complies with, and nobody really knows why?
This rule dictates how people behave and is often about stopping people doing something. The reasons why the ‘rule’ exist are unclear, and nobody can adequately explain the behaviour.
It is part of “the way things are done around here”.
‘Imagine Rotary’ is the 2022-2023 presidential theme that RI President-elect Jennifer Jones revealed on 20 January. She is asking Rotary members to dream big and take action: “We all have dreams, but acting on them is a choice.
It must be a ‘President Elect’ thing because Graeme asked us the following five questions which we had to answer on the night but also asked us to go away and think about it some more, sounds a bit like homework.
1. What do you like about Rotary?
2. What do you like about our community?
3. What do you like about our Club?
4. List one thing you would like to change at the Club?
5. Do you have an idea for an activity or project our Club could do?
George – who has experienced about 10 PETS, provided his thoughts and insights on Rotary, where it has come from and where it is hoped we are going. Rotary needs to change, we need to change.
