Stories
Tiffen 2.0

It has been twelve months since Sarah lasted visited our Club.  Sarah Tiffen is a poet, playwright, a university lecturer and a speechwriter for Australian politicians.  As one of five generations of her family to live in Leeton, she is also a proud local through and through.  This is why she has become involved in two projects close to her heart.

..........................................................

The first topic Sarah spoke about was the Save Leeton Hospital Campaign.

‘Call to Action Roadmap' for Leeton District Hospital (LDH)
•          'Save Leeton Hospital' Facebook page was established as a platform to allow residents to vocalise their experiences at LDH without a doctor onsite.
•          Ten community members have volunteered to help with the campaign.
•          A 'Call to Action Roadmap' has been developed to:  identify the current issues LDH is facing;  collate all reasonable ideas of how it should be functioning and collate strategies that enable desired functioning abilities.
•          This 'Call to Action Roadmap' will be used to advocate for changes in Leeton District Hospital to the NSW Government and provide the community with evidence of action should fundraising endeavours be necessary.

General Outline
Stage 1 - Stakeholders Synopsis the Hospital
Stage 2 - Leeton District Hospital Background
Stage 3 - What health services does the Leeton Community want at LDH?
Stage 4 - How do we get those Health Services at LDH?

Collecting Information
•          Research conducted by the Leeton Hospital Community group
•          Creating two targeted surveys.
1)         directed to general population of Leeton residents
2)         directed to local health care professionals
•          Distribution of surveys (Local NFP community groups, Social media, The lrrigator)
•          Community Meetings

How can Leeton Rotary Members Help?
•          Share your knowledge on Leeton District Hospital's history and how it run
•          Take part in the survey when it becomes available and share it with family and friends
•          Attend the community meetings for Stage 3 and Stage 4 when they scheduled

Contact the 'Save Leeton Hospital Roadmap' Coordinator Maryann Iannelli to express your interest in assisting in the 'Call to Action Roadmap'.   marellimarketing@gmail.com or mobile  0438 535 186

Sarah’s second topic of the evening was on behalf of THE Leeton Writers Collective (LWC) to announce the formation of Riverina Writing House (RWH).  Riverina Writing House is a brand new local independent publishing house and centre for writers and writing to:

•          Build the capacity, confidence, and resilience of the community through helping them to tell their stories.
•          Bring writers together with others who have a story to tell.
•          Build on the historical legacy of Leeton as a literary town and preserve and enhance that legacy to ensure it remains strong and intact for the future.
•          Become recognised as an institution producing a world-class, unique canon of literature, that will allow generations to enjoy the stories of this place, and the opportunity to make books and tell their own stories.
•          The vision for RWH includes having a central location as the physical home - to incorporate everything from meetings of LWC, to the development, design and production of books, presentation, promotion and sale of products, site of workshops and retreats, residencies, and to hold launches and events.  This site will also develop a range of other social enterprise activities, including potentially a bar and cafe, cottage garden, and intimate performance venue.
•          To engage the expertise of a team of around five dedicated, skilled and committed people.

   Carmel’s Riddle of the Week

I am black when you buy me and red when you use me.
When I turn gray, you know it’s time to throw me away.
What am I?

The Menu

Matt’s mum Kim was our special guest chef, treating us to apricot chicken with rice (Laurie’s favourite) .  Not to be out done by his mum, Matt prepared an upside down pavlova with fresh mulberries and ice cream.

Apparently unbeknownst to Kim, next week she will be cooking Chicken Boscaiola with pasta, whilst Matt will be making dessert.  Riddle Answer: Charcoal
